Reader Paul probably has to fend a lot of people off his Wii; after all, he has the sweetest controllers around. While it takes a little artistic skill to pull this off, this is the kind of mod anyone with the courage to give it a shot could do, and that's why we can't resist showing it to you. Oh, if only we could manage to draw a straight line, much less paint one. We yearn for that extra dash of awesome.
The blue one looks like it should belong to someone who owns a Mini Cooper. You know, the kind with the Union Jack on the roof. Anyone else get that feeling? The red one just makes us think of Voldo, and now we want a Wii Soul Calibur that much more.

I did use a vinyl dye and yes they are both based off of the Atari symbol and the Frankenstrat. I'm doing a couple more paint jobs (a few controllers and the Wii itself) and was looking for any design ideas. Thanks for the input guys.

Hey guys, Paul here. The actual process is very easy. There's a how-to for a 360 controller (http://alcaron.blogspot.com/2006/12/noir-360-wireless-controller.html) and I did it pretty much the same way only I masked off portions with painter's tape. The one iCanDigThat posted looks awesome and I think I might do something along those lines on the next one. If you're a little squeamish about taking apart your controller, then I can do it for you and paint it how you'd like. Just e-mail me (jumbo53@msn.com) and we can work something out. Well, I guess thats it from me so peace and controller grease.

Everything is intact. The IR cover is still there, you just can't see it from the angle.

Thank god somebody else recognized the frankenstrat paint job. Whats cool about the EVH remote it the way he taped the lines when painting. The way he did it, the wii logo, the power label, and the home label were all left intact. If you look at the atari one, the power label is covered

i dont think that the paint will hold up to reagular use, i put it on and after 30 mins it easily pulled off like latex. i used the dupli-color vinyl and fabric as instructed in your 360 link which kind of paint did you use for your wiimote

i havent been abel to use it yet im just using it for show now because the paint doest "cure" with the plastic like it said in the tutorial, so my options are to cover it in clear coat so it doesnt peel off or just look at it
another thing, the screw driver made to take the controller apart is a bitch to find i ended up makin my own it dont work all that great do you know were to find the spicific one

Well, when I e-mailed this guy, he said that he used Rust-oleum Spray-Paint for Plastic cause he couldn't find the stuff from the tutorial. I suggest to just screw the vinyl dye, since it's for soft plastics anyway(car seats n' stuff). I went to a hardware store, the wiimote surface is way too smooth for that stuff to stick onto it. Even for the regular paint, you need to need to spray primer on it first so the paint actually adheres to the surface. You should probably just use rustoleum paint and primer first.
search for 'tri-wing screwdriver' at play-asia.com. It's only a few bucks.
