Apparently the purple dragon is going to be making an appearance on the Wii in Spyro: The Eternal Night. Currently slated for a release on the console this October, it was initially believed to be a port of another Spyro game, but is being confirmed as a new title by Codename Revolution. Personally, we haven't played many of the Spyro games, but even considering that, we don't want a port, even if it is of one of the franchise's best games. No, we're sick of ports, give us something fresh.
Is anyone excited about this? Any Spyro friends out there?

I lost all my love for Spyro when Insomniac stopped making the games. I desperately tried to like the first one on Playstation 2, but I couldn't do it. The games after PS1 are just terrible.

Yup, that's the truth. Nearly every day I would go to my friend's house to play Spyro (he had all three). I tried to play one of the newer games recently. It sucked.

I loved it as a kid but I don't think I'll be buying this one, the PS1 ones was really cool and also I was alot younger so it was easier to like it.

If they give us Spyro 1~3 on one disc, then I welcome it. Otherwise, it can go in the junk pile.

Luckily, they continued to make the brilliant Ratchet & Clank series for PS2 (and PS3 later this year).

Ratchet and clank tries too hard to be trendy- i played the first one and admit it was kinda fun, but it didnt grab me like spyro did.
Its sad that cute, bright cartoony platformers dont really exist anymore, nintendo first-party games aside. It was a genre i really enjoyed while it was still about, and it really deserves a revival sans 'gritty' protagonists and gameplay areas that take themselves too seriously and have all the charm of a bloated corpse as a result.
