The Wii is, at least to the generic public, a very multiplayer oriented system. You can't enjoy the flagship Wii Tennis without a second controller ... oh, wait, we need a nunchuk for boxing as well ... but man, three-player would be so cool! And so on and so forth. But Wiimotes are frakkin' expensive. Forty for the main, twenty for the add, you know the deal.Sooooooo, where did you draw the line? Did you pick up an extra Wiimote with Wii Play? Do all of your Wiimotes have nunchucks? Did you drop the hundred and eighty dollars for the full complement, not including any Classic Controllers? And for the love of God, use rechargeable batteries. Mother nature and your wallet will thank you.

Up until may you can get buy with a couple. Wario Ware and Wii Bowling allow for hot seat. Mario Party will make the full set a necessity.

And the second Wiimote/nunchuck doesn't even have batteries in it right now. That's how much I use it, lately.
Maybe once or twice a month, at most.

I went 4 and 4 plus the classic. Seem to always max out the multiplayer options when I get a new system. But I'll be honest... never use them all. Waste of money? Well as far as usage- yeah. But I like having the complete set thats for sure, so I dont feel any regret or anything.

It's hard to have a Wii and not enjoy the frantic nature of the simultaneous minigames. I restrained myself and just picked up 3 'motes and 'chuks until Wii Play came out, then completed my set. Seriously, though...turn-based play is fun, but the coolest part of the Wii is the frantic multiplayer...like 4-player Elebits or, my newest obsession, 8-player Bust-A-Move. If you want a Wii for Zelda, sure, you can deal with having less controllers. But then you're missing out on so much.

I picked up 4 remotes and 2 nunchuks at launch and got my remaining 2 nunchuks weeks after. I like to have them in case of multiplayer instances. It doesn't happen often but I'd rather have them then want them.
Hooray for a good paying job and disposable income!

Started with 1, got a second a few weeks after launch -- my wife loved playing Baseball with me ('cause sometimes she could win ;-).
For the past month, I haven't been able to figure out where my 1-year-old hid the second remote, but until Super Paper Mario came out, I had no reason to even turn the Wii on, so...
Anyway, I really want to find that other remote now so we can play some Tennis together, but other than that I'll stick with 2. If some friends want to come by and play something 4-player (I hear some of the Rayman minigames are great at parties), they can bring their own 'motes.

When I first got my Wii I could not find more than 1 extra Wii-mote and nunchuk, plus 1 classic controller. I had originally planned to buy enough to have a total of 4 Wii-motes and 4 nunchuks. My reasoning was that we have some friends that come over about once a month to play board games, etc and I thought that we would naturally play Wii sports and other games all the time.
We did play Wii sports together, sharing the 2 wii-motes between the 4 of us, and what my wife and I have found is that our friends are just way too annoying when it comes to playing video games against them. For example, the husband never wears the safety strap and does extremely exaggerated movements (accident waiting to happen and he won't wear the strap no matter how much I threaten him). The wife is also extemely annoying to play Wii bowling against because if she starts to lose at all then she starts whining. Of course she does the opposite if she starts to win... she rubs it in big time.
Now I recognize that my wife and I could also be annoying to them because they no longer even ask to play Wii sports or any Wii games when they come over.
As much as I had once looked forward to playing the Wii with friends, I know look at how much money I saved by not having to buy the additional controllers.
Now I just hope Nintendo gets their online play in gear soon so that I can find people to play online instead since my dreams of playing with friends have been shattered.

I've got the full load-out. 4/4/4. I'm that guy.
But it wasn't always this way.
I started with 2 'motes, 2 'chuks and a classic. Enough for my girl and I to get by and for me to do the classic thing.
It turns out that she is hardcore into a lot of the classic games, so I grabbed another classic.
Then our friends moved closer to us. I picked up another 'mote, then another - just to accomidate - then came the 'chuks and then bomberman 93 came out...
3 more classics.
It gets wild, though.
Whenever anyone asks if it was too expensive I point at the Spree motor-scooter I use instead of a car and they get it.

Four Wiimotes.
Four Nunchucks.
One Classic.
Rechargable batteries with non-rechargables on tap just in case a controller goes down. Plan to get the Wiimote charger thing-a-ma-jig.
Bought them pretty much one at a time as they would pop up in stores. Waited for Wii Play for Wiimote #4.
Have used all four for bowling and tennis when friends are over. Generally use one or two when it's just me and the wife playing.

You should be ashamed to call yourself a gamer. NOT because of your accessories, but because of your implication that those are kids things.
Back on topic though, I have a ton of controllers for most systems, but for Wii all I have, and all I need, is 2 Wiimotes, 1 Nunchuck, A few GC controllers, and 0 Classic Controllers.

Additionally, if you were really much of an adult, you wouldn't be petty enough to feel the need to even make such a comment. You're not grown-up enough to be willing to say "This is what I like, this is who I am, and I refuse to allow societal expectations to make me feel embarrassed by it".
I don't care what you're numerical age is: You've got a lot of growing to do before you can call yourself an "adult".
I've gotten really tired of apologist gamers.

Additionally, whenever Nintendo decides to clue us in on the specifics for Smash Bros Brawl controls I'll do whatever is neccessary for a full set of players. Hopefully that won't mean 2 more remotes and 3 more classic controllers (i.e. $140+tax) 'cause if so I won't be in a rush.

Started with the one wiimote and nunchuck that console. Wire on that nunchuck broke, but Nintendo replaced it immmediately at no charge. Bought a second and third wiimote. Two weeks lated found the coordinating nunchucks. Then bought Wiiplay and a fourth nunchuck and classic controller. We also still had four GB controllers. And just this weekend, bought a pair of the Nyko recharging stations to keep all four wiimotes fully charged at all times.

We need 4 remotes for tennis, and that's almost all we play here. We've used all 4 nunchucks for some Monkey Ball, Red Steel, and Rayman too. When Strikers comes out, we'll use all the nunchucks every day. I only use the classic for a couple of the VC games, like R-Type and Dungeon Explorer.

I picked up an 2 extra Remotes and 1 Nunchuck at launch (even without a console), then asked for a Classic controller and another Remote for Christmas...
So all told I have:
4 Remotes, 3 Nunchucks, 1 Classic controller and 4 Wavebirds (1 with a (Mad Catz or Nyko - its been to long ago to remember) battery pack)...the others with regular batteries) and the Nyko Dock/battery pack (really like this thing, BTW). 2 Remotes have the Nyko batteries, and the other 2 are battery-less until needed.
I am note sure if I will pick up any more Classic controllers...or just use the 'Birds. I like the button layout better on the Wavebirds.

Let's see...
I wasn't able to get a Wii till Black Friday.
It was the LONGEST 5 days I've probably have ever had! So before I even got a Wii, I bought a Wiimote, and two Nunchuks cause that was the only thing I could find--plus I also heard that there would be a shortage, so I wanted to get what I could.
Then I ordered another Wiimote/nunchuk online (also before I got my Wii--I had intended to have a full set of motes/chuks).
Finally on Black Friday I got my Wii, which of course came with a mote/chuk.
So that's 3 Wiimotes, and 4 chuks.
My reason for all this was cause I was flying back home for the holidays, and I wanted to play with my cousins who were all gamers, but never tried the Wii.
I tell you, our holiday experience wouldn't have been the same without the Wii!!
Finally, I had pre-ordered WiiPlay, so after I got back home from the holidays it arrived in the mail along with my last Wiimote!
I still get to use at least 3 of them about twice a week, when my friends come over to play...

It was annoying to have to swap between 4 people in some Wii Sports games, but there's no big hurry for us to get any more than we need.

At the moment I only have two, and don't see the need for more. I can play all of the Wii sports games (except boxing) multiplayer with only two controllers, because golf and bowling you can share 2 or 1 controllers around 4 players. Tennis I find is better two player, because four player would become tricky in a smaller space. Baseball is only two player anyway.
Wii play is only two player, and the other game I have, NFS Carbon is also only two player.

I think, possibly, the first time EVER that I bought 4 controllers for a system, and to think they're all first party, too, and none of those cheap "The character's going left! Why's he doing that!?" third party ones.
At first I used my Cube pad to play Classics, but then I got Super Mario World, and swore a bit. So I got a couple of Classic Controllers, since most of the classic games I have work with the Wiimote on it's own, anyway.
I was considering picking up a couple of Wavebirds, mind, since those Gamecube cords are ludicrously short now that the console's tucked away. The Cube had a handle! You could pull it forward to get extra cord length!
