Of course, we already knew that gesture-based gameplay was going to be incorporated into the latest Harry Potter game for the Wii, however we had no idea how it would work. Surely, one can easily imagine flicking the Wiimote right or left to perform any number of magical tasks from Harry's incredible repertoire of spells. EA has finally commented, however, to some degree on specific movements and how they'll perform in-game actions. The gesture-based gameplay, which naturally suits itself to spell-casting we believe, isn't only going to be limited to Harry and his wand, as it will be incorporated into other facets of the game as well. EA Executive producer Harvey Elliot reveals that one aspect of the game will have ask players to "slide the Sixaxis or Wii Remote from side to side as though you were lighting a match," choosing to leave us in the dark on the specifics of what this will actually do in-game.
Elliot does, however, explain a bit as to the difference in controls between all systems it is set to grace. Elliot says "So if you want to use 'depulso' to push an object away from you, you press the right analogue stick forward on the 360 and PS2, you push the Sixaxis controller away from you on the PS3, and, of course, you flick your 'wand' away from you on the Wii."

What's SSX Blur's controls? Regular flicks and buttons for normal moves and holding down B and then performing the uber moves with specific motions, right. That would work for Harry Potter.

Hmmm... light a match, maybe?
Now you're not in the dark anymore!

That makes sense for the wiimote... but it would feel silly doing it with the Sixaxis.

If it had a mic, and I could go 'wingadium leviosa' while doing a swish-and-flick and pick stuff up I'd be very happy indeed. I might even buy the game.

I'm kind of worried to see how devlopers treat the Wiimote controls. I love Twilight Princess, but it does get kind of gimmicky that almost every single action is controled with shaking the Wiimote.
I'm really hoping that the Harry Potter game comes out well, and the designers implement the Wiimote controls appropriately and (funly?). Let's just hope that Wiimote flicking doesn't become the new button mashing.
P.S. Why does Harry look fat?
