With only a few months to go before the release of Super Mario Galaxy, expectations couldn't be higher for Nintendo's flagship hero. The title was recently confirmed for release this year, leaving our Nunchuk thumbs quivering in anticipation.
Mario is carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders, however. The groundbreaking titles, from the original Super Mario Brothers through to Super Mario 64 (sorry, Mario Sunshine), were more than great games; they also defined their platforms, setting new standards both technically and in terms of design.
It's no surprise then, that bloggers are starting to make demands for what they want to see in the new release. Check the link to see what people want this time around, and let us know what you want included.

For some reason I have a bad feeling about Mario on the Wii. I mean the n64 version is my favorite game of all time. The Super Mario Bros on the original nes are absolute classics. The expectations are simply to high for Mario Galaxy. I sure hope I am wrong though!

Well, a bit late to start demanding things so late into development.

What's with the Sunshine hate? Just because it didn't break a ton of new ground doesn't mean it's a bad game. Super Mario World really didn't do alot of new things except add Yoshi - Sunshine didn't do alot of new things excpect add a backpack and Yoshi. It doesn't make them any less fun.

Umm, Sunshine DID make things less fun. The inclusion of a water backpack was the leading cause of a ton of poorly conceived jumping puzzles that were really hard and not fun. Nintendo had forgotten that jumping puzzles work a lot better in 2D games than in 3D games, and they need to be made absolutely perfect or people will get mad.
This game will no doubt have jumping puzzles as well, but if they don't rely on water-powered hovering then they might actually be fun.

New Super Mario Bros. isn't that ground-breaking either, but holy crap is fun to play!
I agree that Mario Galaxy has got so much hype around it, it's sure to disappoint some, but Nintendo has surprised us before.. who would have thought Metroid Prime would turn out so well..

Also, as much as Mario is a staple for Nintendo, I think we need another Luigi's Mansion game more than we need Mario Galaxy. Since the Wii is both more powerful than the GC as well as having discs that can store considerably more, it would be possible to make a much bigger and more complicated Luigi's Mansion game than before. Also, the Wiimote would be perfect for this game.

I've never really followed mario much, but galaxy may be a must have for me anyway, even though I'm much more looking forward to MP3 and SSBB

The stakes are huge for this game. Galaxy needs to proove that the Mario series didn't peak with Mario 64, the same way Zelda now seems to have peaked with Oot. Hear me out:
Miyamoto has just admited that Zelda sales are bad in Japan and that the audience for such a game is shrinking. Of course FFXII didn't have that problem , did it?
I know i'm gonna get burned for saying this. Twillight was great, but dated, and in in terms of originality it felt like it was treading water. I enjoyed it, but FFXII has me blown away. Zelda just isn't at the height of art direction and story telling. They just don't have the production values as Square Enix, and that matters in an RPG. Nintendo is in denial about where RPG standards are at.
But Mario shouldn't depend on a huge epic story the way an RPG should, so there's hope that it can pull through
Will Galaxy be a break through in exitement and fun? Will it feel NEW? If not, it will become obvious that Mario has "jumped the shark" like Zelda, or at least it's makers has.
I'll get my flame retardant jumpsuit on.

Shut your mouth about Sunshine. The backpack was interesting and I had fun with it. Being 'groundbreaking' is not a requirement for something to be a good game.
Dismissing Sunshine because it tried something outside of the normal Mario gameplay is the same sort of whacked mentality that had people bagging on Wind Waker for trying out a new art style.

Well...I thought Mario Sunshine was whack. But I thought Wind Waker was great (personally, I like it more than OoT, though I know that's not the popular opinion). I'm not a knee-jerk reactionary who goes with the mass's opinions (or at least I'd like to believe that). I just thought Sunshine was...not...fun.
