Not the official name, of course, but damn if we shouldn't take up careers in marketing. Rayman Raving Rabbids, a game noted for being rather dichotomous in quality, will be receiving the sequel treatment on both the Wii and the DS.Alas, the style of the game seems to be untouched: perform in various minigames and encounter some marginally bearable screaming lagomorphs en route. We're hoping that with familiarity comes refinement: this may be the first direct sequel of a game released for the Wii, and thus familiarity with programming the motion controls may bring a more natural and elegant experience. If not, Ubisoft, prepare to get market slapped, because we're kind of getting sick of minigames.

I'll be looking forward to this. Though I didn't find Rabbids to have much longterm replay value (I mostly had my fill after a two week rental), and some of the minigames were pretty bad, I did have a lot of fun with it. It's also, by far, the funniest game I've ever played (not that there's much competition for that title).

I was thinking the other day: Nintendo made a really good move holding off on Zelda until the Wii came out. I can't think of one GOOD free-roaming game (FPS, platformer, adventure, etc) that has come out on the Wii since Zelda. You have whatever WW2 game came out, which I heard sucked, and Red Steel was quite possibly the worst FPS I've ever played. And maybe a couple others, but none of them were good quality.
I say this because of the minigames comment. I'm sick of them too. I guess it's really easy to be critical when you're a consumer, but it seems Nintendo is kind of screwing the pooch. They could have given the Wii such a better reputation with 5 or 6 games that had real depth when they released the system. Besides Zelda, the only good games released have been mini games and Trauma Center. And Madden, I think.

I just bought Raving Rabids today and I'm loving it. It's a lot of fun and it's given me many chuckles so far. I agree that some of the controls could be more refined but it's still a worthwhile game. Wii could definitely use some more games with deeper experiences. At least there's Zelda, The Godfather and the Virtual Console.
