After a ton of buildup, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl website began updating this week, which is exciting in principle. The actual content of the updates, however ... well, let's just say we had already guessed that Mario and Link will be in the game. Today we get a small amount of news about a new item-- a Gooey Bomb that sticks to opponents.
The whole development cycle has been like this-- we've gotten very little information of any kind about this game except what we already know (for example, the rules of Smash Bros.) It's kind of a tease. Of course, this just serves to build up anticipation of the final product.
Would you rather get a huge blowout of info all at once, or do you enjoy letting the excitement build as you're fed tiny little morsels of information one by one? If you don't feel like talking about that, we suppose we could talk about the Gooey Bomb. One warning, though-- we've heard enough about banning items from "serious play" for one lifetime.

I love how they're doing this.. I mean, getting all the info at once is just too much. This way I get home from school and see a little update and check it out. It's the best!

This is a great way to do it. For the first time I can remember I'm visiting a game site every day for updates. I just can't bear to miss any major announcements like new characters or release date.

I'm done with all the info, just give me the game! But if I have to wait for the info, I'd love it in just one huge lump sum.

I would MUCH rather just have a giant listing of everything all at once. Or at least all items at once, all characters at once, all levels at once, etc..

First off, allow me to just say, I've never played SSB of any kind, so I don't have a dog in this fight. Call me a diaper wearin' commie, fine, but, before you do, know that I am a Nintendo freak and own a Wii and no other non-canonical, heretical consoles. I just skipped the Cube generation.
I can't stand how Nintendo chumps its fanbase by holding out sometimes. Honestly, give me all the info up front, and a fire of excitement will burn until the game is released. They are good at doing this, occasionally. However, if I were an SSBB fan, I'd probably be pretty upset right now. It seems very chump-like to tease and then not deliver anything worth the anticipation.
However, Nintendo has many games coming out this summer that have me very excited. Especially contrasted with the "meow" (as opposed to "roar") that Sony has planned. I really do think the industry is better as a whole when Nintendo is at the top of their game, like the 80's to early 90's. It seems their time is coming again. SSBB or no, these are good times to be a Nintendo fanboy.

It would have been so much better if they didn't have a week countdown. If they would have just taken it offline and just said that it would be relaunched soon, then people wouldn't have expected (myself included, although I did have my doubts) some big announcement from Nintendo, like revealing more characters.
That being said, I like what they are doing. I know that going without any news for months on a game that is supposedly almost complete is ridiculous. That is why it is nice to have a little tidbit of information each day. The information will never be the most indepth coverage(just look at link's and mario's bios. No moveset, just a few pictures and a little description we practically already know. But those tidbits are an excellent way to just tide fans over until the major gaming sites post the indepth previews/videos.
Oh, and Yasunori Mitsuda = Godly.

Perhaps if it was more than say one screen/item/song a day it would be less of a painful process. Like it was stated above just give me a release date already.

neither, the lump sum and the trickle both have their pros and cons, but I'd rather get the updates in larger pieces, the site should have launched with the info on the few characters that we already knew about (and had already been featured on the site... I mean, come on, wait seven days for a site to come back with less than what was on it before?!) then maybe 3-4 characters/items/stages/etc/mix-and-match a day would be nice. The first day was great: a stage, music info, and some basics. Second day was ok, even though it was 2 characters we already knew about. But to then wait another 24 hours just to hear about 1 item (although it seems to be a very interesting item, I'm thinking bomb-tag...YOU'RE IT!!!)
So probably 3 updates (1 or 2 new things) a day would be great

It bothers me because of when it updates.
approx 2:30am for me.
My subconscience has actually waken me up around 3-4am to past 3 nights, just so I can stumble into the computer room, and check out the latest update.

Sticky bomb? More like PLASMA GRENADE FROM HALO CROSSED WITH THE SKULL FROM BOMBERMAN.
But seriously, all I can say is "Finally!" This item is what I've been hoping for ever since SSBB was announced.
Actually, if Bomberman were a featured character, and there were multiple different kinds of bombs based on the Bomberman universe (specifically the rubber bomb and the remote control bomb), that would be awesome. Except Bomberman would be a crappy character because he can barely jump and has virtually no potential for physical attacks such as punches.

Actually, I both love and hate it. It's just very "Nintendo" to release information like this and that's what makes it awesome. One thing I would have liked to see though: The site should have everything we know already set up at launch, and the weekday updates should have all been on new items/stages/characters.

I like the trickle of information; gives me something to look forward to every day when I get home from school. If we get it all at once, I'll just want the game out and be bored until it comes; at least this gives me something to almost countdown. And I don't mind them having to re-update known characters, since I don't want too much information yet... more than anything, I want a release date, and I wouldn't mind some surprises when the game comes out, y'know?

I'd like the trickle, only because its a scheduled trickle. we KNOW when the next update will be, when the next piece of info will be out, as opposed to them dumping a lot out at once (say if, on the site re-launch, they had said, "these will be the basic characters," but then gave us nothing else until more info appeared unannounced a month later)

Covarr: I suppose it is entirely possible that bomberman could be in SSBB, especially because of that Wario and Bomberman crossover game, as well as Hudson developing the Mario Party series.. Maybe bomberman will show up in mario party 9..

i haven’t seen any characters blocking on videos or pictures, it would be nice to see a different block for everyone like yoshi had on melee.
snake with the box
link with the shield
shiek with the useless chain(if she is in on brawl, im killing someone if she isn’t)
well you get my point, what do you guys think?

The way they're releasing info on the game slowly is fine. Daily updates. cool. But if only they had started it a few months ago. I'm starting to forget and not care.
Also, I was hoping the game would be out before my wedding (in August) so I could play this with some friends I haven't seen in years, but at this rate it doesn't look likely to happen.

I'd actually prefer they only tell us the basics - only the sort of stuff that appears in the manual. Half the fun of early life cycle play in SSB games is the 'HOLY SHIT' factor of unlocking new characters, items, levels, etc.
Personally, I wanna know a little - the starting roster for instance. You know, the characters useable from the get go. The initially available levels. Basic game modes and control scheme.
But I don't want all the information on everyone that's gonna be in it, the nuances of every item and level, etc. I want them to be a surprise, and I'm pretty certain that's why they've been so tight lipped about all this stuff up until now. I certainly don't want to know what 3rd party characters are gonna be in it until I've unlocked them.
I'm not even sure I'll keep checking the SSBB site, purely for that reason. That, and the fact thatI'm sure everything will be echoed here at Wii Fanboy, so when that all important release date gets announced I can check it then. :D

First of all, I'm smash-crazy. I'm one of the "serious" players, who goes to their friend's house every friday to play melee (though yesterday is was Melee and H3 Beta ;))
And I love the way they are doing this. This way we know when info is coming. And I also just want the basic information. I don't want to know the unlockable caracters. I want the OMG factor when they make me batle Ridley for the first time and earn him as a playable character. That's the special thing about first having smash.
As for the items.... That sticky bomb looks pretty sweet. And don't worry, WiiFanboy, When the game first comes out my friends and I will be all over the items. Probably after a couple months we will start having Item-less matches again xP
