A GoNintendo reader was looking very critically at the new Gooey Bomb item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and discovered what is absolutely the origin of the item. And now that we've seen them together, it's so obvious that the Gooey Bomb is based on the Holy Protein from Cho Aniki Seinaru Protein Densetsu.
You know, except it sticks to people and blows up instead of being orbited by two beefy dudes in Speedos, while shooting lasers. Too bad. If we were designing Smash Bros.-- okay, if I were designing Smash Bros. (I don't think I can speak for Wii Fanboy in this case) it would be heavy on Cho Aniki content.
Now, something kind of looking like a thing from another game isn't strictly news, but Wii Warm Up is a discussion topic, and we can discuss whatever we feel like. And today we want to talk about the Cho Aniki series. So, if you've played any of the games, tell us why you loved them. If you haven't, go read about the series, then come back and express your shock.

Frankly that's a load of bullshit, provide some gameplay footage of said item or I won't believe shit.
The shape and colours and ambiguous and could be believed to be anything.

Uhmm...wasn't the guy who did the music to Cho Aniki listed in the list of the composers of the SSMB music? Maybe the connection is real?
But maybe I just didn't remember the list correctly.

Koji Hayama is in fact on the list. He also did music for Ape Escape 2, one of the Front Missions, and some Super Robot Wars stuff. Neat!

Please, they stole this concept from the Plasma Grenade/Spike Grenade of Halo fame, if they stole it from anywhere
Although IF they did (probably not), it wouldn't be the first time Smash Bros ripped off weapons
Laser Sword, Motion Sensor Mine, Cloaking device, anyone?

The mine was from GoldenEye, and the Cloaking Device was from Perfect Dark, were they not? I recall screenshots of the Japanese version of the game (and NOT the US version in Japanese mode) actually listing the games they were from.
Though, the Japanese version did have the Proximity Bomb instead of the Motion Sensor Bomb...

It looks like the Sturgeon egg from that one episode of Nickelodeon's Angry Beavers, "Big Round Sticky Fish Thing".
