We'll call it "mostly confirmed," but according to this article on the Wii's financial success, George Lucas has said that a game that turns our trusty Wii remotes into lightsabers is on the horizon. Unfortunately, there's no quote to back up the assertion, so we remain partially skeptical, but it's one of those things that we just know is going to happen, whether we want it or not. Anyone else just as interested, if not more so, in using the Wiimote and nunchuk for Force abilities in a Star Wars game? The upcoming sandbox-style Harry Potter includes motion controls that simply make us drool for similar applications in a Star Wars title ....

I would love to see a game based solely on lightsaber combat, not just a fps or 3ps with some lightsabering. An online first-person lightsaber game with extremely tight controls would be roxor.

well.. you can't expect a perfect controlled lightsaber game. most games using swords have certain patterns of movement that trigger specific actions. if somehow they could use a kinda thing alot like the bat in wii sports baseball, so as you control the saber every second and inch of what it does, that would be interesting..

The problem with 1 to 1 control of a lightsaber is that you're swinging at air. What happens when you lock your saber against theirs in the game, but your swing keeps going? If you pull your remote back up (to match where the saber is) you'll pull your saber back too.
I don't know how they'll work out the kinks, though I hope they make it as close to 1 to 1 as possible. I won't lie - I'm nerd enough to say that I daydreamed about just such a game back in school... =)

The Wii remote works like Wii Sports baseball, with nunchuck analog for movement, so you can run and swing at the same time. When you clash sabers, they bounce off each other, and it gives you a fraction of a second to realign the Wii remote as your character regains control of their lightsaber. The actual locked-saber parts wouldn't be able to use force or swinging, so you'd be holding the Wii remote still but maybe hitting A and B as fast as you can or something. And you could then swing the nunchuck to kick or knee them in the nuts. But hey I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud, but actually silently and through text.

From the video I saw showing the controls for Harry Potter. . .this would be sweet to use with the Wii. I just hope they 'TAKE THEIR TIME', and not rush the game.
However I am not sure how well this will work out with the lightsaber. But we will soon see.

Who'll sign my online petition asking Lucasarts to promise they will NEVER release a Star Wars game "Specially Optimized for Wii and Wii Players!", and have it turn out to be a bunch of f-ing Star-Wars-themed MINGAMES?
I could just see it now - holo-chess with pointer action, blocking little laser bolts from that little training droid-ball, cutting open the belly of you Taun-taun, Trauma Center-style, then crawling in... hey, if they worked these minigames into a bigger whole, with an excellent and fun good game being the main product, they could actually bea really fun!
Please forward this comment to Mr. Lucas.

The game was announced a while ago, wasn't it? The game where you play with Darth Vader's apprentice which takes time in between the 4th and the 5th movies, far from where the movies took place, and has a new AI and graphics simulators (which look awsome, btw, check lucas arts site)
I understand it would come out sometime at 2008...
If that's not the same game they speak of here, then sorry for the mistake!
