Will you inconsiderate jerks stop buying Wiis already? You're totally making it hard to find them in stores. Think of the children!Okay, we would never really say that. We love you all. We were just trying a new strategy to help alleviate the continuing Wii shortages. We may need some kind of tactic, because analysts at Lazard Capital Markets are predicting that the demand will continue to exceed supply through the holiday season.
How do they think the situation will be resolved? Increased production? No, they think people will eventually lose interest in the Wii because of its weaker processing power. Don't hurt yourselves slamming on the "comment" button!

Sorta related:
I went to my fiancee's family picnic on Sunday, it was 4.5 hours away in Pittsburgh, PA. I was sitting there, not doing much with about 80 people around me (that I didn't know); When all of a sudden I hear behind me:
"Has anyone played the Nintendo Wii?" My ears immediately perked up.
"Yeah is this great game console that is a BLAST!" I turn around to see a middle-aged woman standing around a bunch of other women, all nodding in agreement.
God bless you Nintendo, for making gaming less nerdy. :)

Yeah, I was taken aback when my seven year old niece said, "Uncle, in four years, will Nintendo be able to meet other next gen consoles in their quest 'to push the envelope with graphical and technological advances'?" Oh right...that never happened. Because THEY DON'T MATTER.
On a side note, I saw plenty at my local Target. The nunchucks were all plucked away, though.

my thoughts are; if "processing power" is the best wii-downfall scenario analysts can conjure, i'm afraid they'll be mistaken for active, heavy drunkards. as far as i'm concerned, the only people that have commented on wii's processing power out of everyone i know that's played wii, are my old gaming buddies. i honestly don't see my sister, momma, cockatiel, or grandma saying "oh l00k @ ps3 adn 360 w/ poligons & texturs!! ROCKZORS!!!! OMG!!!!!SHIFT!!!11ONE1." why? cause they don't care!!!!! why don't they care? cause they don't know!!!!!! why don't they know? because it's not consequencial to their having fun playing wii!!!!! so in essence, releasing this bit of information to the press is beyond sober, human understanding and enters the realm of the distorted, pitiful, and nonsensical drunkenness that these analysts suffer from. amen.

Increasing production would reduce the profit margin per system. Obviously unacceptable. So, one of the largest game companies in the world will continue to ship as many consoles as they say they expect people to buy, while at the same time noting that they can't meet demand.
Sorry, folks, but if you want a Wii, you'll just have to hold it.

Supply and demand are nearing equality -- I've been tracking the resale value of Wiis on eBay since day one, and now the average price is around $280. Many 'Wii-flippers' are now losing money on the overall transaction, when original sales taxes and eBay fees are taken into consideration (and there is still a complement of people who start the bidding too high, thinking it's still January, and don't sell at all).
While we're still not seeing significant availability from e-tailers, Wii bundles are managing to stay on the shelves at eToys.com (for instance) for significant periods. (If you can cope with the overpriced bundling!)
I think we'll see consistent stock availability in a month or two, and it'll remain so through the summer and early fall. It wouldn't surprise me to see sellouts again in November and December, although that could be earlier if Nintendo ramps down volume and clears stock ahead of a holiday season hardware refresh (didn't they say there would be a refresh this year including DVD-playing ability)
