8Bit Joystick has a very real problem on their hands, one we suspect will be affecting us in a week or two. See, their Wii is full from all the VIrtual Console games they purchased. Since we like to cover Virtual Console games as well, we can understand where they're coming from. The solution, as you may already know, involves a lot of copying to the SD card slot and deleting the games from the Wii's included 512mb of space, freeing up those Channel slots.
Have any of you filled up, or come close to filling up, your Wii with Virtual Console games?
A problem we will soon share

Couldn't you just delete the ones you don't really want and then download them again when you want to play 'em again? As far as I know, once a VC game is bought, you can download it as many times as you want...

After the 8 non-VC channel slots (Disc, Mii, Photo, Browser, Shop, Forecast, News, Vote) there are 28 other slots. Even if those are all NES games at $5 apiece, that's at minimum $140 spent on Virtual Console games. Damn.

Nope, I don't see the point yet. Other than Punch Out and Super Mario World I have nothing else. I fell Nintendo has big plans for these Channels and if you fill them all up now what will happen when these new Channels come into play.

It's not really a big deal. Get a 2GB SD card and copy all the games to that, and whenever you download a new game copy that over as well. Eventually you'll run out of channel slots, but then you just delete a couple games and you have space again. If you want to play one of the deleted games again just copy it back from the SD card.
Or, like j0rg said, just delete them without the SD card copy. Want to play them again later? Re-download them (it's not like it takes that long).

This isn't a problem for most users yet, but it will be an issue Nintendo will have to address before the end of the year.
The solution is three-fold:
1) Instead of making each game it's own channel, have a Virtual Console channel that opens up a list of downloaded games. It could be sorted by name, platform, and date just like on the Shopping Channel.
2) Allow more options for storage, including external harddrives. And please, give us non-proprietary support so that we can use really cheap drives (500GB externals are down around $100).
3) Allow the game to be run from any storage media. Most (all?) of the VC games can be loaded into RAM, or can be buffered in in the case of N64 games. This way, we don't have to be choose in what we have available for play.
Those 3 things would make the Virtual Console a million times better.

I'm understand how a gaming site might run out of room but if the average consumer/gamer does, I think they need psychiatric help because noone could enjoy that many VC games. Most are totally rubbish.

What about games (e.g. Super Mario 64) that save your progress a la cartridge memory or even the ones (e.g. Super Mario Bros.) that simply save your point when you last went back to the home menu? If you deleted those would you lose your data? If that's the case, then wouldn't the same thing happen if you copied the game to SD as soon as you downloaded it and then deleted it later?

If you're so strapped for funds, B-Ry, why don't you make use of those free points that you love so much.
What's that? It's a scam? Really?

they should allow you to group VC games , so you could create a "SNES" group, or a "Zelda" group, or groups for "Adventure" "Puzzle" etc - or whatever you want...
just allow creations of channels which have a name you assign, and then open to contain more channels
would be something they could push with a firmware update :P

You also have to realize that that 512 MB is partially occupied by the Wii's OS
i did some conversions with a 512 MB SD card, and figured out that about 40% of the on-board NAND memory is already occupied by the non-removable programs and functions

I use Gamming Lagoon as well, I've already got myself 4000 wii points and a 2GB card from them and I only ever spent about $4, the rest was done through the free surveys. Next item I plan to get is the Classic Controller.

Hey, I hate to break it to you, but I already tried copying my games over to my 2GB SD, and it says it's not allowed. Game saves, however, go over fine.
Why the hell do I have this card if I cant copy the games over?

"it says it's not allowed."
You're doing something wrong. I and many of the others here have had no problem copying VC games to the SD card. Make sure you have upgraded your firmware and that you don't have the card's write-protection on.
Note that you can't play games off the SD card, for now anyway. That's one of the major complaints.

This is what I was worring about since I saw the way the wii handles VC games, pretty poor planning on Nintendo's side really, I mean, at first it's a nice idea, but as time does go on, people will use up those 28 slots and if you're like me, who's not always got his consoles hooked up to the 'net and you want to play a game but can't re-download it because you're not on the internet... Well, then you're a bit buggered aren't you? Best to do what the 360 does with it's Live Arcade stuff, make it a seperate section with unlimited pages or make it a seperate section with a list function, probably not hard to implement and would work around the problems which we face now... Of course, you should be able to set which of the first Wii screen's sections to which games you play often though, like a short cut or something. Then the Wii 'dashboard' would be pretty sweet.

If you live in the Uk and want free Wii points cards heres a LEGIT way to do it:
Get a points card, like say Nectar, or Texaco.
Spend money on stuff and get points.
Redeem these points as vouchers for shops like Curries, or Dixons.
Go to store and purchase Wii cards with vouchers.
