Dave:
I'm just happy we're still getting it this year, as I was afraid it would get bumped back. And with the Dojo updates rolling on the regular, I'm going to be well-fed on news about the game up until it's release. I'm excited.
JC: Well, it's about as late as it can be and still be considered "this year." At least they haven't broken their promise about its release date yet. The bits of video we got to see behind Reggie looked nice.
Eric: Like Dave, I was surprised to hear that this is still scheduled for this year. It's interesting that there was very little, if any, mention of the game's online capabilities.
Alisha: Wha-? I'm shocked that Super Mario Galaxy is going to hit first, but hey, I'm always a fan of delays if it means we get a better game. I can wait a little longer to get my smackdown on. Like Eric, I just, uh, want to hear about some online business, you know? I can wait for the game, but I want that now.

Dave:
Oh, Nintendo ... what are you doing?! A new peripheral?! Even if it is bundled in, won't the game cost us $60 bucks (at the least) now? We all knew the franchise would be coming to the Wii, but isn't the Wiimote enough to control your kart and enjoy the game? Why do we need this ridiculous wheel?

JC:
Hey, the Wii Wheel! This is a new and innovative peripheral. Where did Nintendo get the idea for this thing? And to bundle it with a racing game ... a masterstroke.
Oh, well, the game's online-- that's all anyone does or should care about.
Eric:
I looked for somewhere to hide when he brought out the Wii Wheel. Mr. Fils-Aime at least had enough foresight not to say, "It's the Wii Wheel! Wiiiiii Wheel!"
Alisha:
If this jacks the price of my Mario Kart, I'll ... uh ... still buy it. But there will be fist-shaking. I like the other new peripherals, but this seems superfluous to the extreme. Online Karting is somewhat mollifying, however.

Dave:
What happened to last year's E3 prototype? It looked a lot better than this thing. Personally, I'm not liking what I see here.

JC:
Expect a spike in third-party gun shell sales now, since every one of them looks better than the official product. Really, the only thing that sways us towards Nintendo's product is the promise of mysterious bundled "software." Gumshoe update, please. No, I'm kidding. I meant Gotcha.
Eric:
Pew pew! It could be worse.
Alisha:
Whatever, as long as it doesn't devour my hand, I'm in. I want to shoot things with a gun-type object. Works for me.

Dave:
This year, Reggie?! But, seriously, this is good news to us all who were expecting another delay. Being the best game I got my hands on at last year's E3, I'm very excited for this title (natch).
JC:
Can't be upset about a big game actually coming out this year. I could have done with more full-screen video and less Real Family Enjoying the Wii.
Eric:
Can't wait for the new high-quality trailer to show up online. If Nintendo can keep to its promises with Super Smash Bros Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, and Super Mario Galaxy's 2007 release dates, Wii owners have a very promising fourth quarter to look forward to.
Alisha:
YAY! I was starting to worry, and I want this game so very badly. Bring. It. On.

Dave:
Where is the gaming revolution the Wiimote was supposed to herald? All these peripherals make me think Nintendo are doubting themselves. A jazzercize step?! Come on! Not only that, but navigating all of that text is just too annoying. Oh, it comes with more minigames?! Awesome.
JC:
Why is it, when a nongame is on the DS, I think it's great, and cute, and charming and hilarious, but when I see one on the Wii, a resounding "noooooo!" sets off in my brain? Well, that's how I feel. Noooooo!
Eric:
Step aerobics looks way too complicated. I wonder if they'll use this balance board in Cooking Mama as a cutting board.
Alisha:
Are you guys crazy? This is the one peripheral that actually DOES add something! The Wiimote can manage a lot of things, but you probably don't want to step on it (unless you happen to have loads of extras). I've been wondering how they would pull off all the monitoring and such with the Wii Health Pack (now Wii Fit), and this is a great idea. There's only so much that you can do, exercise-wise, with a remote. Please realize, folks, that gaming -- Nintendo gaming, at least -- really is moving beyond just traditional games. I think Wii Fit, and the keynote itself, demonstrates an excellent balance of things that will appeal to both new mainstream gamers and traditional gamers. While the DS yoga trainer might not ever make it here -- because it probably wouldn't sell -- this has the potential to sell like crazy, and if there's one thing we all know about Nintendo, it's that they are all about that money.

[Note: Those of you with a very observing eye might've caught one of our stories featured in the Nintendo keynote.]

Why are you guys are all so negative :( I completely loved this keynote, but then again I didn't expect Nintendo to come all out and win a console war with a keynote, either.
The Zapper looks great, Wii Wheel is a little silly but online more than counteracts it. WiiFit is a neat idea to continue the success of WiiSports, and I LOVE that SMG is coming out even BEFORE Brawl!
On WiiFit specifically, everyone (on Joystiq, especially) seems to think hardcore and casual games are mutually exclusive. News Flash, having one doesn't negate the other! Having both is the key to ultra-success for Nintendo.

That new zapper has a much more commanding feel that the previous prototype. It also looks more comfortable to hold for extended periods of play.

Exactly, VidGuy
People are just mad that they picked that game as their big one to show for the keynote
But now the developers can have thier own little events on the show floor (more or less), and we'll see more details in the next couple of days about the big-name titles (except Brawl, because of the Dojo trickle)

Well honestly, that wheel thing is a little retarded, the gun is coolish looking, see where they take that, and the Wiifit sounds like a good idea. God knows some of us could use more exercise, but we will see if they can manage to make it fun, not extremely repetative.

I'm not feeling negative at all! Maybe it was because I didn't get to actually WATCH the keynote, as I was away at the dentist, but I'm totally happy with everything that was presented. I would have loved to have seen more DS stuff in there, but all the media and such that's out already has changed my mind.
I LOVE the Wii Fit stuff, and I really like the gun. No crankiness here!
The wheel, though.... eh.

No worries on the Smash online. Think about it:
Even a month or two ago, we had reports that people were playing a "very nearly finished" version of Brawl. Everything out there suggests to me that the game is "finished" in terms of the off-line game. Why wait to December to release it? They need all of that time to put in the online components - this is unsurprisingly the last thing they would work on to implement. So, unless they are holding off on releasing smash sooner rather than later is purely so as to not compete with the likes of Halo 3, etc., this is surely a sign that the game will ship with online play intact.

I think Nintendo have made a huge mistake by making WiiFit the focus and climax of their show. None of the people whom this "game" is targeted at are watching e3, they don't even know what it is.
All Nintendo has done is angered the vast majority of gamers by giving us the one thing we prayed they wouldn't; yet another casual, lame, crappy, minigame-fest.
This e3 was the perfect opportunity to prove the Wii naysayers wrong, to show people that they do still care about games and gamers, that their new-found success isn't at the expense of their artistic integrity and that they haven't sold out and are now purely interested in how many casual idiots they can get to buy this stuff.
But now all people are leaving with is the thought of WiiFit. Great.....

Though I might feel weird about buying Wii fit at my nearest EB or BestBuy, I can only imagine the possimibilities of the balance board.
If it can detect weight transfer as well as they say, a ski, skate, surf, snowboard sim would be pretty interesting to see.

You develop online play alongside the offline play. If you develop online play at the end, it's very possible to run into coding conflicts that can mean major amounts of time and money wasted.
As for the press conferences, I was underwhelmed by all of them, but Nintendo delivered everything that I WANTED to know. The rest of it was gravy, rather thin gravy though.

I dunno, I think the wheel looks like fun! I've held off on buying that cel shaded racing game just because I was waiting for Nintendo to make their own wheel.
I also think making WiiFit the keystone of their keynote was brilliant! Who cares about the hardcore gamers? We'll buy stuff whether it's shown at E3 or not. The casual market is where Nintendo has been selling Wiis by the truckload to, so it makes sense to market a game to the press that will have mammoth casual appeal.

My immediate reaction to the Fit board was two things: 1.) I would break it in ten seconds, and 2.) Not For Me. I don't do a lot of exercise today (lazy + nerdy is a bad combination), and I don't think seeing a caricature of myself doing jazzercise would motivate me to start. But. Somebody made the good point that this could be adapted to other simulations -- skating, snowboarding, surfing... none of which interest me either, but at least I can see where it might gain some mass-market appeal.

On Wii Fit --
It's really hard to track your progress when trying to improve balance.
I'm a triathlete and I try, as much as possible, to track my progress towards being faster. That's easy to do with running, cycling, swimming, weight training...
But when it comes to balance it's harder to know how you are doing. If nintendo can give me graph proving I can balance better than I used to - I want it!
(And balance is really important for just about any sport you do.)

I'm starting to get nintendo's approach to this. The conference was short on game content but then if you look at all the trailers/screens that have come out since, you can see a lot of quality. Mario Galaxy looks AWESOME.
I think the conference was way too crowded with news coverage patting nintendo on the back, and far few game demos but the games shown look good.
Here's a question though... WHY did they show high school musical over boogie?
Also, another nintendo show tommorow at 1... Smash Brother trailer?
My opinions
Pros:
Wii Fit keeps Wii in public eye, potential for some cool new games (snowboarding, movement in first person shooters... etc)
Mario Kart Wii with online and BATTLE MODE!!!
Medal of Honor online with 32 players!?
Mario Galaxy/Metroid Prime look sweet
Phantom Hourglass looks SWEET
Cons:
Not enough game videos
Too much patting on the back
Wheel peripheral
Maybes:
Zapper + game??? (Zapper looks cool... but I won't pay 20 dollars for it unless this game it comes with is snazzy)

Yes not much on the DS or the VC side. Regardless I'm totally excited by this E3 and put it up near or even higher than E3'06. They took the affordable accelerometers from their wiimotes and created the ultimate pad. The accelerometers measure the gravity against them and can detect the differences among the different sides and ends. Put that onto a board and suddenly you got full body motion without any cumbersome suit or diodes.
Critics say waggle control is a gimmick especially since motion controllers will be standard in the "True Hi-Def Next Gen" consoles and that Nintendo will be left without any options. Nintendo has just reinvented controllers, AGAIN in the spring of the new generation.

Dunno if it's been mentioned but the WiiBB, is prime for skate, FPS and boxing games. I think this is subterfuge on Nintendo's part. Put out a game the masses will like with an addon that's pretty groovy for the game, and devs will hopefully look at it use it in their games too.

I watched the keynote last night, and I was pretty impressed. No 'mega-ton' announcements, but a really good, strong showing for Nintendo.
I loved the info on the expansion of the gaming audience....especially the older demographics. My partner and I were just talking about this earlier in the week when a friend of ours wanted to borrow our Wii to take to his 60+ year old parents house because his mom wants a Wii for her birthday. I have not heard of any moms wanting to get a PS3 or XBox 360 for themselves...have any of you? That to me is simply amazing.
I think that Wii Fit is a great idea for ALL gamers...we could all stand to get off of our butts once in a while. I see this as really taking the Wii (and gaming in general) into another realm of acceptance with the traditional 'non gamer' community. I mean can't you just see the 'oldies' in the retirement homes eating this up and using it daily? Isn't that the point of the Wii....to encourage you to use it every day? And isn't it also the point of the Wii to bring memebers of a household together to enjoy time together? This is a true revolution, and it is happening in front of our eyes.
The 'Balance Board' has quite a bit of potential outside of Wii Ft, too (as others have mentioned previously). I know that I can see myself getting up a little bit earlier to do a routine in the morning before I head off to work.
Nintendo has proven once again that they are not afraid of a challenge, or to do something different than the other gaming companies. The entire industry benefits from their forward thinking and vision.
BUT- I do think that they patted themselves on the back a little bit too much...but hey, why not toot your own horn while you have the spotlight?
I am SUPER stoked that Mario Galaxy is really coming out this year, and we get Mario Kart early next year. I wonder how many drivers can be in a race at a time?
I wathed the Microsoft keynote, and it felt (like always) that they are trying too hard to be 'cool' and 'hip'. Not trying to be snide or anything, but it all seems a little fabricated. I do find it a little funny that MS brings up that they have 6 million XBL users, but at the same time there are 5.5 million DS users online (in a shorter amount of time, BTW)...and they are playing for free.
I have not wathced the Sony keynote yet, that will be later today. I am interested to see what they have to say, and are offering up for the next year.
Overall, I think that Nintendo knocked a home run with their keynote. They brought up some good points about 'satellites' (the Brain games, Wii Fit, NintenDogs)bringing new people into gaming that would have never gotten into it previously. I also think that they are not going to let the 'core gamer' down...they have only showed what is coming out in the next 6-8 months. Who knows what will be coming out after that? Since we are all 'fanboys' and 'fangirls' here, we tend to consume games at a much faster rate than most people...so we will ALWAYS want more. But it's not just about us anymore.
Welcome to the future of gaming where EVERYONE WANTS TO and IS ABLE to play.

All of this talk about "imagine new ways to play games" was said in 2005 when the Wii controller was announced. Two years later, what do we have? A ton of mini-games and PS2 ports. The new game play everyone was told to imagine hasn't happened (yet).
The same thing is being said about this board. It won't happen. There will be a couple of exercise games out, and thats it. There won't be any walking in place to move your character games, it will be for exercise games.
The thing that upsets me about this, is the fact actual games like Project Hammer get canceled so that they can focus on this. Nintendo continues to disappoint me. For everyone else who is into this, have fun.

"imagine new ways to play games" is very fitting for the Wii. Tiger Woods, SSX Blur, RE4, Twilight Princess, and the upcoming MP3:C and Super Mario Galaxy, along with proper point-and-click adventures like Zach and Wiki could not have the same way of playing on any other console. RE4 on the GC feels incredibly slow and boring compared to the Wii version. I can't play Tiger Woods or Madden on anything but the Wii, thanks to the great improvements in interaction.
Content-wise, the Wii needs improving. Some large improvements are coming. But to say it hasn't changed the way we play games is just silly in my mind.

Exactly. Isn't that a new way to play games? Flicking the remote to swing a golf club is much more engaging than flicking a small stick. Aiming directly at Ganados similar to a lightgun without the discomfort is certainly better than slowly panning over them with an analog stick. Tilting the nunchuk to balance on a snowboard is simply easier and more controlled than a stick.
Did you expect the Wii Remote to suddenly make video games completely virtual reality? These ARE new ways to play and, in many cases, they are BETTER ways to play.

I disagree with better ways to play. SSX is a pain in the ass to play on the Wii. I didn't expect it to be virtual reality but I expected better than what we have now. The fact that Nintendo canceled two anticipated games for stuff like Wii-Fit is extremely disappointing. The casuals are going crazy now, but what happens when the casuals get tired of the Wii and the hardcore gamers that Nintendo shunned won't go back to them.
Honestly Metroid and No More Humans are two titles I'm excited about the most, hopefully they live up to the hype.
