This week's Virtual Console releases sees the inclusion of two high-profile Nintendo titles, along with a TurboGrafx16 game we're not familiar with. But, when looking at the two Nintendo titles mentioned, that couldn't matter any less. We know it'll be hard to pry us away from our Wii today, as we get knee-deep in some most excellent gaming.Today's VC releases are:
- Paper Mario (Nintendo 64, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Balloon Fight (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
- Silent Debuggers (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)

I've been looking forward to Paper Mario because I don't remember it very well and I need it to complete my P.M. trifecta, but I'm too deep into replays of Metroid Prime and MP2 to worry about it now. Maybe in late September when I'm finished with MP3:C...

I think Paper Mario may end up being my first purchase for the VC. I played it for an hour or so previously and I loved the experience and the funny dialogue.

My brother is a huge Paper Mario fan. He says his favorite game of all time is PM:TTYD.
He's gonna go nuts for this. Too bad we don't have broadband. I'll need to go to my friend's house.

I've already played Paper Mario enough that I probably won't end up getting the VC version. But I have to say -- I think it's better than the Wii one, though it's a bit like comparing apples to oranges. As a (mostly) 2D platformer, SPM is competent and fun, but PM was a really well-written, fun, clever RPG.
Anyway, the fatal flaw with VC is that I've already played most of their good stuff to death on the original system.
