The jury may still be split on how the final game will actually look (though we'll play it regardless), these latest images from NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams confirm what we already guessed from the trailer: we'll be watching the opening movie over and over again, goggling at the beauty all the while. We've updated the gallery with a few new gameplay shots, as well as several cinematic captures that can only be described as eye candy.
NiGHTS promises a beautiful opening sequence

It's a bit harsh to dazzle the players with CGI at the beginning then, upon playing the game they're treated to in-game visuals much much worse.

It does worry me that they go to such efforts for the FMV when the in game graphics are going to be no where near that. I understand it on a 360 or PS3 where they can at least resemble it, but on the Wii, and especially with what we've seen so far of ingame graphics, I don't know if it's just going to disappoint a gamer even more.

Have you all had your heads in the dirt since they began making optical media-based systems?
Par for the Course, people
Real-time renders are the exception. And whoever said Zero Suit Samus looks just like Claris Sincliar was very right

Well it doesn't matter, because the in-game graphics fail so hard compared to the FMV. It's almost like a bait-and-switch.

@2: Well, if you're telling a story in a game, I think that when detail is needed, detail should be given and a storyteller shouldn't be limited just to in-game visuals when he/she desperatly needs more detail for one part. Even if it's just to get an idea of how the character is truely meant to look or what a place is meant to look like.
But anyway, this is of no surprise to me. SEGA, espcially Sonic Team owned franchises love GCI openings. I mean, take recent examples... Sonic Adventure... Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (360/PS3), they've all had CGI openings. And the game will have at least 2 GCI clips mid-way through the story and a GCI ending sequence. Not that I'm complaining though, it's just the way it is.

So I guess none of you ever played a Playstation game before.
That makes sense though, PS1 and PS2 were before your time (most of you).
I wish the first system I owned was an Xbox 360.

I must admit that it looks REALLY GOOD. But I agree that the in game graphics may be pure shit.
Most won't care but I'm definitely not a member of that crowd. Graphics do make a difference to me. I'm not asking for 1080p but I do want something that looks pleasing. Something that doesn't look like it should be on the N64.

This is totally normal. Think back ot ANY game with CGI FMV. It has always been this way.
Even on comic books, often they get a better artist to do the cover, then the art in the actual comic sucks.
