Too bad I can't get Shining Force yet. I bought Tales of Symphonia over the weekend and competing with my brother in Pokemon D/P so I don't have time for another RPG.

Fuck yes! Shining Force! I can finally play this fantastic classic on a new Nintendo system without its mechanics and art style being horribly slaughtered. Hopefully, Sega will release a new Shining Force like this (1-3, strat-rpg) and drop the crappy action-rpg fad.

I never heard of "Shining Force" when it was new, but I am a huge RPG nerd (Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Zelda of course, etc.). Should I download it?

@ Miranda:
Totally buy it. It's one of the few Genesis games that have held somewhat of a value over the years. It is one of the finest rpgs that have ever been released. Unfortunately, if you are accustomed to the Final Fantasy style rpgs you may not enjoy the game. If you did like Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on the GBA then you would love it.

FFTA you say. I've sunk over 260 hours into that. I'll probably buy Shining Force, along with the sequels when I'm finished with all my other RPGs I already got.

I just copied my post from the other article on this week's VC releases.
They changed some of the graphics in Devils Crush.
If this sort of thing bothers you, you need to be aware.
This was not a change indirectly caused by emulation issues.
The holes in the playfield where balls become trapped or warp to another area were originally rotating 6-pointed red stars formed by two triangles. They looked like rotating Stars Of David. In the VC release these stars become single red triangles. I can only imagine that Nintendo or Hudson called for this change due to fear of offending the Jewish community. I'm sure someone would take offense to thier religious symbol being associated with the occult, witchcraft, or Satanism.
Before anyone says that they didn't have a problem with said images when Devil's Crush was originally released in 1990, please keep in mind that that was a time before the internet was very widespread. Outrage tends to
spread a bit faster these days.
Also I believe this change is not unprecedented. When LaPucelle Tactics was released in North America for the PS2 a few years ago, the Christian imagery in the original Japanese release was replaced. And to be perfectly honest, Japanese developers tended to excercise extreme creative freedom (I'm being polite) when dealing with western culture and religions. I believe western developers were guilty of the same when dealing with eastern cultures.
Would I have preferred they leave the original graphics? Of course. But the gameplay remains otherwise unchanged. So I, personally, will try to let this graphical change slide.
