Europeans, get set to receive Mario Party 8 (again) on August 3rd. For those of you outside of "the know," the controversy comes from an included word that, really, wasn't too controversial. After having it removed, the game should now be squeaky clean and ready to hit UK retail shelves. Some of the original release copies could still include the word, however. Nintendo states that they "are confident we have taken the correct appropriate levels and action necessary and in all new versions of the game there are no issues – however we cannot 100 per cent guarantee that every copy of the initial batch was returned to us and as such there may still be a small number of copies of the game in circulation."
Who can't wait to get their party on August 3rd?

IRT 3: Read the links.
I think the whole thing is a retarded mess. It is almost certainly a bunch of people who think they know whats going on, pushing rules on people who largely dont care.
This sort of politically correct idiocy, frankly, makes me spastic.
Seriously though, its a real problem. I really wish people would loosen up in the right areas - we have girls walking around essentially naked (well, ok, i tend to really like that), yet video games are censored and controlled more than tobacco.
Retarded.

We are talking UK here not Europe.
The game was available since its initial launch in continental Europe.

I truly hate the way we have gone mad with political correctness however I don't think this is PC gone mad. This game is aimed at people of all ages but in particular the youth market. Most of us have common sense and the use of the word spastic would probably be more of source of amusement than anything else.
But it's totally out of order for younger kids to think it's ok to go around calling people spastics, it might not mean much anywhere else but here in the UK it's right up there with some of the offensive terms you can't get away with.
I Blame SCOPE, a charity formerly known as the spastics society for changing their name
