Head past the break for a trailer of the new update (including a look at Peach).
Also, it should be noted that today is Sakurai's birthday. Happy Birthday, Sakurai!

I think this is probably the best week ever as far as Brawl updates go.

Like I said before... this better not be the thing in which Nintendo says; "you don't need online multiplayer! you have The Subspace Emissary!!1zomg911!!1eleven!"
just confirm it already!
I know it's coming out dec3 but at least give us the box art (with the wifi logo)... reggie sidestepping this question has been pissing me off for far too long now.

@ james: at this point, it honestly could go either way. Yes, Iwata called the game "Online Smash Bros" before we knew anything about it, but he also claimed it as a launch title. Conversely, Reggie's coyness could just be dodging the question like they did with Metroid Prime 3, but it could also be saving the info for that Press Event that they severely hinted at at E3 (and by severely, i mean they mentioned it so often in a kind of "wink-wink nudge-nudge" way that they might as well have hit the journalists over the head with a frying pan and shouted "We're having a Brawl Event!")
But i like what i see here, and having Mario and Kirby shake hands, appearing with Peach and Zelda rushing to their aid, also hints at co-op, which would be excellent. The funny thing is that half of those enemies look like they came from Kirby games, while the other half look like the foes of Kingdom Hearts

Is anyone else immediately reminded of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine?

With online drop in/out co-op like in Crackdown, this game could really show that Nintendo WiFi is just as good as Live (although, that might be pushing it).

I'm pretty sure there's not going to be any online play. Personally, I care about this much [ ]. I would just be getting stomped by a bunch of tournament level players if I played online. I prefer to play with my friends in the same room. People are going to be PISSED when they confirm no online multiplayer, though. It's still going to be a really good game, but the fans have been looking forward to that.
Either way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SAKURAI!!

@ Croove55, as i said, the possibility is still very strong
Yes, they didn't mention it at E3, but don't you think that kind of thing would've stolen the keynote, a keynote where they were very much trying to emphasize a previously unknown title with a completely new concept? As i said, they've been talking about a Brawl Press Event, and what else could they announce at such an event (if it occurs)? They already have detailed the release date and now the story mode, there are only 2 announcements left that could have that kind of pull: Sonic and Online

Back @ Mr. Khan
I don't know if it would have stolen the show, seeing as everyone sees it coming. Nintendo and HAL Labs seem to be skirting the question, which means one of two things:
1. There's no online multiplayer, but Nintendo wants to keep up hype for the game as long as possible, so they aren't going to announce it until the game's finished.
2. They're holding off the announcement that 90% of the media and masses are already taking for granted, to raise hype for the game at the last moment, which seems to be a dubious effort since no one will be surprised.
The problem that HAL faces is that we already EXPECT the game to be online capable. If they announce it, they'll get a superficial round of applause, but the only honest response will be a sigh of relief. If they disconfirm it, everyone gets their respective undergarment of choice in a wad tight enough to cut off circulation to an elephant's foot. Ow that sentence did not flow right at all. Just ignore it. What I'm trying to say is there doesn't seem to be a point in "building up" an announcement that everyone has already started to take for granted, aside from the oddball skeptic like myself.

Why would you guys even want to play online if Nintendo isn't even going to release a communication headset? There's no point to online play without communication! So if Nintendo is going to announce online SSBB, they better announce a headset too!

I think David has a skewed sense of what multiplayer needs to be fun. I have spent hours playing Tetris DS (484 wins so far) since I got it in March and I have never thought it wasn't fun not to be able to communicate. I totally see why Nintendo is hesitant to have somebody shouting 'Owned your A$$, you little suck-pod! I could have beat the sh!t out of you BLINDFOLDED, pukedrinker!' in the heat of the moment as they beat you. That stuff might be fun for the halo 2 crowd who all are like that, but a wider audience means that people like me, a 23 year old NON-typical gamer who wouldn't want to inflict my random statements on a randomly selected other person in America, who is likely to be someone, who like me, doesn't want to be assailed by verbal or textual pleasantries, very well may be playing. Now, I think that they could easily add a headset to the Wii as they did the DS. In fact, its silly to think they won't. I mean, clearly one came out for the DS, which has far less horsepower. Just hold on to your horses. Imagine what Reggie would say: "Could there be a market for a Wii Headset? (coy smile) Yes there could. Stay tuned." or something similar. So... stay tuned!
