This week caught us by surprise. We never knew such an outstanding title would be falling on our laps. It brings back many a fond memory, for us, this racing on the waves. So, be sure to note that our video is chock full of footage for that title. That's not to say the others get kicked to the side. It's more of a gentle shoving.

Wave Race 64 (Nintendo 64, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it
If you didn't see the video, download this game. It's got a great feel to it, is a lot of fun and one of the best N64 games around. Easily recommended.

Adventures of Lolo (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
This game has some charm to it, but ultimately lacks the variety needed to sustain interest throughout. Sure, it has varying levels and different enemies to tackle, but after a handful of maps it will start to feel monotonous and boring. Save your 5 bucks.

Galaga 90 (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
Galaga 90 isn't necessarily a bad game. But, in adding a coat of paint to the original arcade game, along with some new features, it doesn't feel any different than the first time we played the original Galaga. Personally, we don't find much here to validate it over the original. If you've never played Galaga or don't already have it in some other form, then give this a whirl.

I have to completely disagree. Galaga '88 (sorry -'90) is an absolutely fantastic game - one of the most beautiful and engaging the TG16/PCE had to offer. So don't download it - hunt up a TG16 or PCE, and play the real thing !

I noticed when he's at the starting line in Waverace, with 2:54 left in the video, it says "Wii" on one of the race banners. I didn't think Nintendo changed anything about the VC games but obviously that texture was changed. Anybody have the original to see what was originally there?

Good catch cuddlefish. I went back and looked at it. Another banner has Nintendo DS on it.

Cuddlefish, there's an article on WiiFanboy about the changed ads to DS Lite and Wii. Mostly due to the expired licenses of the ads like Kawasaki. Similar to Pizza Hut in TMNT Arcade or the names in Tecmo Bowl.

FEEDBACK ON YOUTUBE VIDEO:
Sometimes the videos are overlit and every thing seems a little washed out. I would suggest using the settings on your tv to bring down the brightness and increase the contrast so it looks better on film.
Also, when the video is embedded you don't have access to the button that shrinks frame size to make the graphics looks a bit sharper. Could you make the files size a bit bigger to enhance the definition a bit? Or figure out a way to get that shrink-frame button for the embedded videos?

The American releases seem to be lacking compared to the Japanese schedule. Or even the European one for that matter.
Updated the Virtual Console forecast here:
http://madiart.blogspot.com/
At this rate it will only take 30 years for the full library to be released.
David, please, start a petition on Wii Fanboy to increase the release rate.

Ryan,
I'll take note of your suggestions next week. Seems like every time I go to record a game with a lot of black colors (for example, Galaga 90), I get that effect. Thanks for your help!

Has anyone else been experiencing trouble with the Wii Shop? It keeps freezing for me, and it only happened in the past two days.

Have you ever actually played Galaga before? You killed all the ships that would have given you double ships...

David, have you considered using a PC with a video capture card rather than filming the TV? It'll greatly improve the picture and audio quality, and there's a bunch of tools available to record your commentary as well. VC games don't require the sensor bar and you can control the Wii menu via the Classic Controller anyway so there shouldn't be much to stop you.
It'll also make taking screenshots a bit easier so you don't have to use shots from another emulator.

Shogan,
Of course I've played Galaga. I wasn't going for strategy or points, in the video above, but rather speed. My goal is to get through as much as I can as quickly as I can, so that you all may see as much of the title as possible.

Smoke,
Yes, I have considered it. But, the problem is the cash money it would require. Sorry. :(

"Do not download" for Lolo?! D: Yes, the repetitive music can be annoying, but...
Well, I did download it; enjoyed it back in the NES era, and am enjoying it now.
