Using a Firefox browser workaround, intrepid Virtual Console fans can occasionally get a peek into the future of Nintendo's retro gaming plans (and the dripping irony is not lost on us). Aiming their black-hatted crystal ball at Nintendo's U.S. VC servers, their recent exploits have today turned up images of the start screens for both the original Metroid (already available in Europe) as well as Super Metroid.
Could Nintendo be priming these titles to coincide with its release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption later this month? Don't you know it!

way back when the virtual console was first anounced, my first thought was super metroid, I'm so excited. Not too excited for the original metroid since you could play it on the first metroid prime and then again on gba with 2 versions. I was hoping these would come out since mp3 is out soon.

Apparently I am like many others who didn't get a chance to play Super Metroid. I played the original on my NES when I was a kid. I even owned a SuperNES so I don't have a good excuse for not playing Super Metroid. This will definitely be my next VC purchase.

I have to have it so i'll have every entry in the Metroid storyline (Zero Mission being the same story as the original and disacknowledging Prime Pinball)
of course, i never paid for Metroid, i earned it by beating Metroid Fusion

I believe I commented on another article saying how perfect it would be to release it this month. AND I just finished Metroid II: Return of Samus again mere minutes before I typed this. I'd been looking for a SNES and copy of this game to buy for a long time, but once the ESRB leaked that it was coming on the VC, I stopped. But Nintendo is taking so long to release it! My remaining 1,000 points are begging to be spent and if Super Metroid doesn't come out soon, I may go crazy.
