Wii Warm Up: Update issues?
Seems that some of the users at the official Nintendo forums are reporting some post-update problems that vary from system to system. How about our dear readers? Any message issues, mysteriously non-working Wiimotes, or even glitching VC games? The forum reports make things seem pretty bad, but we haven't discovered any problems. All our controllers work, and we've successfully sent messages post-update, and even tested some keyboards. But what about you?

After the update I couldn't get connected to any of the online channels. It really freaked me out until I reset my Internet settings. Apparently it wiped mine so it had no configuration. No other problems since.

Apparently I have had no problems what so ever, I mean everything worked perfectly, the little clock shows up and I don't hate it, though I'm not sure the point of it.
I hope Opera at some point updates their stuff so keyboard support can be an option, I think it would be cool if it didn't have to go to that huge screen to type so you could if you needed, load up a java chat client and use your tv to keep up with people.

I just wanted to say that any report that the update keeps the fan on while in standby is FALSE the system is definitely still running HOT.

I've been waiting for a place to post this...
I updated and then I bought WaveRace 64, because that game kicks ass, but now in between Sonic 2 and WaveRace on the menu, there's a blank spot that won't let me click it or anything, and its represented by 3 question marks on under the data management screen. Anyone have any thoughts on what this is?

@Welch,
Lots of people are reporting seeing something similar in the Channel management screens where you can copy and delete channels. You are the first I've seen to have it on the Wii Channels main menu, though. It sounds like deleting it doesn't cause any problems but no one knows for sure. It hasn't appeared on all consoles, and it looks like it was meant to be hidden. Maybe it's a future feature that Nintendo will activate with a smaller update - like the "Check Mii Out" channel - and they wanted the bulk of the channel to be there in this long download so users didn't have to have another long download next time.

The shopchannel was not working for me, 'cause my internet connection is only 40kbit down and 10kbit up (GPRS). But after the updtae it works for the first time.

After hearing that both the Gamecube Freeloader and the SD media launcher don't work, I decided to try my GameCube Action Replay on my Wii. I am here to report that it does NOT work. I either get an error message or my Wii just simply resets itself.
This sucks. I guess I have to use my old gamecube again. Oh well.
(Just for the record, I only use Action Replay after beating my games the first time.)

No major problems that I'm aware of. I downloaded the latest update shortly after it was released and while I don't particularly like the font used, I have not noticed any problems. Of course, I also haven't downloaded any VC games yet - very soon. :-)
I was able to purchase the Internet channel (didn't have my Wii in time to get it for free - :-( ).

Did it really take that long to download it for everyone else? mine was all done and ready to play in less than 3 minutes... i've heard other people saying it took 10-15...
i haven't had any problems with the update... at least not yet that is...

I've always had problems with the remote powering off during a furious bout of Resident Evil 4 or Wii Sports Baseball. It gets really annoying when it refuses to light back up and I'm being chomped on by a zombie.
Any thoughts?

Erik, make sure the remote is tethered to the console by pressing the Sync button on the system and the remote. I had that issue (it would disconnect even though it still had plenty of battery life) until I figured out that I was using my secondary remote which I hadn't every "hardconnected" to the console. I had just pressed the 1+2 buttons to connect it. You should be able to turn the console on/off with a remote that is "hardconnected".

@ Deric, no, I noticed this change in the light as well, also, it seems the light stays on even after the console is powered on, it use to cut off when you came out of stand-by.

Yea I've noticed changes to the light as well. It now lights up when I eject a disc and lights up when I insert a new one. Before it wouldn't light unless I booted up a GameCube game or if I received a message.

Well, after waiting about 30 min. to update with a crash half way thru (tho. the digital clock still appeared even tho it didn't finish) and running the update twice (after waiting another 30 min.), my Wii is 98% bricked. None of the channels work, I can't look thru my saved games on the Wii or on my SD slot (I hope it didn't delete any). The only thing that's working is the settings menu and that the wii turns on and off.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I believe there is another subtle change to the Wii after the 3.0 system update. At first I thought it was just a glitch on the Wii we have at church, but then I noticed the same thing at home. When a message is received while the system is in standby, instead of pulsing slowly like before, it now pulses bright, and then blinks three times back down to low brightness. I don't know if the number of blinks indicates something different now or what. Perhaps if there is a system update it will just slowly pulse like before, and for messages it blinks. Is this a change or am I crazy?

@miklnk, adjust the settings in the Sensor Bar sensitivity. That usually fixes a jumpy cursor.
Bummer, Tim. I was worried about that happening to mine. My internet got disconnected about 1/3 into the update and I had to restart. Scary booting up but mine worked fine. I'm sure warranty will cover yours?

The shop channel freezes up on me now, and I can't get past the billing address page. As soon as I start the shop channel or the internet channel, the screen freezes up and the bottom right corner warps. It works once it loads, but only on certain screens. Anyone else had this problem?

I am unable to access WiiNews and WiiShop.
After a lot of testing, I have come to the conclusion that the Wii is simply NOT turning on my USB2LAN adapter at all when trying those two channels.
Everything else works fine, WiiC24, Messages, Mii Transfers EVERYTHING but news and shopping....

Not a big deal, but following the update, I can't reset the browser. On the rare occasion that the browser freezes up, I try hitting Home, then Reset, but I just get a black screen til I manually power down the Wii.

I can confirm that the USB to ethernet adapter (official and from Datel) can no longer access the wii shop channel. Everything else works (internet channel, etc). This started immediately after the update. When I use the Wi-Fi connection, the internet channel works (I normally don't use it as there's too much interference in my apartment complex and connection drops out too often). C'mon Nintendo fix this already! See this:

Ya, I got the warranty service. I was planning to send it to Nintendo anyway because of a faulty hinge (the hole that the hinge goes into won't hold the hinge anymore). Now they can't blame me for being careless with my GC controller flap. lol

Well everything is fine except for one thing...it takes ONE FREAKING MINUTE TO LOAD CHANNELS. So that's one minute to boot up the Wii then another to open a freaking channel. Is there anyway to roll back down to 2.0?? This new update is ridiculous.

Smooth as silk for me. I do, however hate the 8-segment-digital font / font size used for the clock, and the inability to set 12/24 hour time independently of the region setting really irks me.

I did try out a USB keyboard yesterday for a bit, and the next time I fired up my Wii, a message stated that my address book had been corrupted, and some friend codes/addresses may be missing. Fortunately, everything appears to be intact, but I won't be hooking another keyboard up until I can confirm it's safe! (Hopefully Ninty releases a nice wireless one of their own!)

Something horrible came with this update. Now when I try to play any vc game it sais "please connect classic controller to wii remote slot 1, or press A to go back to the wii menu." Now they`ve banned the use for gamecube controllers on classic games?
Wow nintendo you`ve never dissapointed me this much in trying to sell a product. You shouldn`t just make gamecube controllers suddenly unusable for the vc games, just advertise the classic controller more sheesh. I was looking foreward to continuing paper mario too with my /gamecube controller/ Or atleast change your listing on the wii shop channel to atleast show people the gamecube controller wont function on games.
anyone else getting the same problem?

manprod, Have you figured out how to fix your wii???? Mine is doing the same thing. It always asks me to update my wii, then it fails. If I go to system menu and try to update it there it tells me I have the latest version installed already.
How do I fix this???
