The latest system update fixes a supposed known glitch with the Wii's Opera browser. Apparently, some have had their system lock up while using the thing, which this new update so happens to correct. Also, the update adds some stability to the Wii LAN adapter, which we can't comment on using since our HQ is all fancy-schmancy with its wireless capabilities.
[Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]

Has anyone tested a USB keyboard with Opera in the latest update?

Here's a thought: Why didnt they issue the update via the Wii Ware channel, rather than a System Update?
If all it fixed was the opera channel (With a minor, lan adapter glitch fix), wouldn't it be easier to just patch up the Wii Ware title?
I think that the glitch affected all of the Wii OS, in things like the Shop Channel, which uses Opera, and the News Channel too. Perhaps other channels as well...

Well, all of my stuff did lock up at times. I just thought it was slow. Especially the Wii shop channel. Not as much now as it used to, but still.

For the record, the Wii still says 3.0U after updating, so you won't have braggin' rights after this...

They removed USB keyboard support on the message board I think... Maybe they weren't ready yet and it was a mistake before?

LIES, ALL LIES.
I just did the download and tested my USB keyboard. It doesn't work in the internet channel, but it still works just fine in the Wii Message Board.

Good to see Nintendo is beginning to take the online stuff a little more seriously. Even if the update isn't anything big, it's nice that they're becoming more involved.

This makes me think that Nintendo has a new philosophy: Lets not tell you about it, let's show you, and if you don't believe us then we will prove you wrong!

My Wii can't update over the internet anymore because I broke the settings page (modded console, ran a US update when I had a Japanese console). Which games have (or will have) the 3.0J update?

the reason it wasn't in the wii ware is because people seem to find comfort in the fact that they can wake up and see that beautiful glowing blue light telling them there is an update. what's your beef with that Nushio?

It'd be nice if there was an autoupdate option where instead of just showing the blue light, it would download and update all by itself (it'd definitely have to be an option and not mandatory though). Also, its kind of annoying when the blue light is blinking so that you know you have a message, but the message counter next to the envelope doesn't appear until after you enter the message board.

If you check the parental controls, you'll see that it now has an option to enable/disable voice chat...

Well, I'll say this much, this little update has made a HUGE difference in my connection thru the LAN adapter (between the weird walls here in my condo and all my phones, Wi-Fi signals tend to get smothered here)! It feels like I ACTUALLY have high-speed on the Wii for the first time ever.
Thank you House of Mario (currently celebrating Samus Month there).

Anyone else get a weird flicker on their blue light? Mine had the usual slow transition as it lights up, but then flickered when it was going dark.

@#18, Jonathan,
Yeah, I'm noticing the same thing. I think it was part of the 3.0 update.
The light slowly brightens, then gives a flicker before going back to black, and then repeats.
I'm not sure if it's an improvement, but it's definitely more noticeable.

imbozzy: They could send you a message to let you know that there's an update available on the Wii Ware for the Internet Channel. Same thing, different approach.
The difference would be that if the Internet Channel was broken, then the patch through Wii Ware would be enough, BUT, if the Wii was broken THROUGH the Internet Channel, then the patch deserves the system update.

Sometimes while using the internet channel it has frozen completely on me. The only way to stop it was to unplug the system, the power and reset buttons wouldn't work.

I was getting the same thing just before I did the System Update for the LAN/Internet fixes. The light slowly brightens, then gives a flicker before going back to black, and then repeats. I do not know if it does this after the update.
I have noticed that the speed is much better on my wireless connection as well.
QUESTIONS: Have we determined what wireless keyboards work? Does any know if the Apple Wireless Bluetooth keyboard work? Have we confirmed after the LAN/Internet Channel update if the Keyboard works with Opera now?

I don't think the light thing is an improvement. It's probably a bug. There'll be another update within the week. Jeez... You'd think they bug-test these things...
For those without updates etc. here's a video of mine (apologies for the quality, it's just my ol' mobile)

It's funny because the browser had locked up on me for the first time on kittenwar.com literally an hour before the update. These things don't happen on nintendo! I'm glad they've resolved the issue.

I've been using Nintendo's LAN usb adapter for my whole wii's life. It does work, but with some weird errors and stuff when trying to use opera, and other internet-based channels and though it still may overheat from time to time, so far my system has been cruisen fine on opera since the update. Thanks nintendo!
