Boogie producer Jean-Charles Gaudechon is not entirely pleased with the critical reception to his game. One review in particular upset him, and with good reason-- 1UP basically assassinated his game.Gaudechon mostly defended the controls in his statement to MTV's Gamefile. "Difficultly should come from the game. It should be easy to dance. It should be tough to dance on a certain level of difficulty." He said that his team reexamined motion control schemes after SSX Blur's controls were panned as too complicated, and that Boogie's controls were focus-tested on a diverse age group.
Of course, none of that addresses the major issue found in the 1UP review, that "this game is fun for exactly 20 minutes, and only in a group of two or more." Of course, that's a little harder to respond to than specific complaints about the oversimplified, rhythm-insensitive controls.

Boogie is such a ripoff of Singstar its not even funny.
Boycott EA, they make lousy ports and they ripoff other companies.

I'm glad this game got bad reviews. They deserved it for copying Singstar.

Well he is right about the controls, playing on easy difficulty is the funnest, it is very aggravating on medium and hard because they seem to use like a different beat setting, but it takes practicing. And I doubt anyone really does get games for the singing component, unless voice recognition systems are really really sophisticated now.

So far everyone who has commented hasn't even played. From someone who owns the game...it is fun. In my 6+ hours with it it has been a blast with or without a friend. Does it surprise anyone that 1up hated it? Half the review was bashing the marketing and the fact that little girls would be corrupted by it. Put some time in with the game, give it a chance, and then tell me it deserved that score.

Yeah I have and own and play the game. It is extremely fun just really harder at the higher difficulties. I broke all the records on every level though which was quite an undertaking.

I own the game... My wife wanted it, what can I say? Anyway, I am disappointed in it. It really doesn't have much in the way of replay value. We unlocked all the songs we wanted in the first 2 hours of play and have only touched the game once since and only because we had some friends over who wanted to see it.
The biggest problem I have with it is it just seems like it is either way too easy (on easy mode) or way too inconsistent on the harder modes. And the story mode is an absolute joke.
The video editing mode might be fun for kids but, being a video editor myself it just seemed kind of useless to me. Why would I want to watch a video of my character dancing with my voice when I can't really share it or do anything other than play it for people live - when they were likely there to watch me make it anyway.
Last, but certainly not least, I think the karaoke mode could be more fun but again it is either too easy (in that you can basically hum the rythm and get a gold star) or too inconsistent on the harder modes. Some of the vocals on the remade songs are just plain horrible too. I know they couldn't necessarily use the original songs by original artists since they needed to be able to control the vocal tracks for karaoke, but c'mon - I would expect that EA could find better bands to remake songs. Obviously a budget constraint got in the way - which also explains the lack of animation and voice actors in the story mode.
Thumbs down - to the beat!

you people who complain that they copied singstar are just plain stupid. How can someone make a singing game without it being similar to singstar? it's the first popular game of it's genre, so of course other games of that genre are going to be similar. i hate when people say stupid shit like that.

This game is a huge dissapointment for me. I love music and rhythm games, and I fell in love with the idea of the game itself, but the execution is horrible.
The best/least-worst part of the game is creating characters. The story mode aspect is technically sexist and racist, but can be ignored if you try not to think about it and leave your brain behind (especially considering you don't need it to play).
And really... What decent parent would let their young children sing along to fricken Milkshake. I hit the mute button when that came on.
