Chris Kohler over at Wired took time to check out the Wii game Geometry Wars: Galaxies while at PAX07 and came away with the opinion that it was better than that of its original Xbox Live Arcade game. Even though we're huge Nintendo fans, we can't say we actually believe him, because the dual-analog control scheme of the original is just about perfect. Still, he sticks to his guns.
Not only does he comment that the control setup of the Wii game is more intuitive, he also comments that there isn't any reason why the game couldn't have been a download on Wii Ware. We have to agree, because even though the game is almost guaranteed to be fun, we doubt it'll ever warrant a price tag of more than twenty dollars.

The dual-analog scheme IS perfect. I'm very happy they are supporting the classic controller. The game is listed for pre-order for $40, which is slightly less than your blockbuster game, although $30 seems more appropriate.
I confess that this is one of the main reasons I decided to buy a Wii. I am a GW fanatic (not bush). The online leaderboards essentially mean infinite replay value. We could debate all day long about the price issue and controls, but the fact remains another great game is coming to wii.

I also tried this at PAX, and the Wiimote controls just plain don't work for this. I'll probably pick this up at some point, and use a classic controller with this.

Eh I cant imagine what would make this worth paying that much for, is it going to have levels and excluisives additional content and such to make it a full game. If so then it is completely worth it, if it is going to be a replica of the 360 one then not.

okay... let's put this into perspective...
The GW concept at it's base is Asteroids on crack...correct?
But to be even more basic, it's a point and shoot game...avoid enemies while shooting them down.
These games have gone all but instinct lately, and that may lend them to the title of "less mature" and "less complex" except...they're not.
Geometry wars is one of the most mind bending reaction testing, legitimately challenging to play on a high level games out there today. This isn't just about being directly competitive against other players by finding patterns and doing the right thing a little bit faster... it's about being inventive, and intuative and knowing the game inside and out.
If they can replicate that feeling and challange over several distinctive and enjoyable levels... well... we'll have a full price game on our hands...weather it's seen as one or not.
I'm very worried about the controls, but I'm POSITIVE that the controls could be done better then duel analogue, because I'm sorry... I'm tired of duel analogue, it's a restrictive and counter intuitive way of gaming. your brain doesn't want to do the exact same thing for two different actions. It doesn't process that well, and that's where the original challenge in GW comes from, so I'm staying hopeful about it...even if i am thankful they kept the old school way in.

If it isn't $20 bucks I am not buying it simple as that. Shoulda been a downloadable game. But heck, Mercury Meltdown is only $20 so I'll probably buy that. (I want a Wii Hard Drive DANGET!!!)

Coming from a Wii/X360 owner, and from a guy who has a top score of around 3 million in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved on Live (+ all achievements), not to mention having PLAYED THE WII VERSION at ComicCon, I can safely tell you all that the 360 controls are vastly superior to the Wii remote's controls, in just about every way. Fortunately, Galaxies supports the egg controller, so it's a non-issue in the end.

Does it support the Gamecube controller though? I'm not about to go buy a Classic Controller just for one game when I've got perfectly good (OK, crappy 3rd party) Gamecube controllers lying around.

Maybe the game just isn't designed for people like you. I, for one, have no trouble multitasking, and I don't want EVERY game to have training wheels attached because people like you just can't handle it.
Next, you'll be saying that Tempest is unplayable because you can't see what you're doing, or Lander is unplayable because mainstream gamers don't understand a complex concept called "inertia".

You should by a Classic Controller anyway. Trust me, for Virtual Console, it is much better to use than a Gamecube controller. The configuration, especially for Super Mario World, makes much more sense and the controller feels good to use. It is worth it.
