Somehow, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity manages to look worse in these screenshots than in the last ones-- jaggier, with simpler geometry and less lighting effects. Have Sega's artists implemented a "pay per polygon" program? We doubt it's anything that complex-- it's much more likely that they're just reusing the already-rough-looking engine from last generation's Sonic Riders game.
Sonic fans: we know you love the character, and that you associate strongly with the earlier games. We know that some of you out there collect the comics and loved the Jaleel White-voiced cartoon. We know that it's even possible that you've enjoyed one or two Sonic games since Sonic Adventure 2.
But you have to stop, for the good of the series. No amount of Sonic fandom justifies buying what Sega is selling. Just ... stop, and force Sega to either improve their output or let the series die in dignity.

I stopped at Sonic Adventure 2. I liked the first one alright enough, but SA2... not good.
Recently I picked up Sonic Heroes for like $5 cause I thought maybe that was before the series went completely to hell. But no. It was the worst game ever. It was only $5 and I seriously want to return it. I've never wanted to return a game before.
I'm sorry.

Secret Rings incinerated any faith I had that the Sonic franchise could be saved (it should also be noted, after being incinerated, my faith tried to extinguish itself by jumping into some water where it was immediately electrocuted.)
I agree that a massive boycott of all things Sonic should be instituted until Sega releases a hedgehog game truly worth playing.

Confession time... I like Sonic and the Secret Rings.
It's the most fun I've had with the blue Hedgehog since the very first game...

I didn't buy Sonic Riders.
But, I'm definitely not in the "Hate Everything Sega Has Done With Sonic" camp. I liked SA1 and SA2 (2 more than 1). I liked Sonic Heroes. I want to get Sonic and the Secret Rings.
These games aren't perfect, no doubt of that. But I personally don't see where the "All Sonic is now crap" mentality is coming from. But that's just me.

It's a reasonably safe assumption that, in the real world and the realm of video game pop-culture, plumbers have longer life spans than hedgehogs.
Who knows, maybe one day Sonic's comeback will commence. Oh, and maybe Bomberman will have another hit! Hell, while we're at it, why not Bonk? Or Q-Bert?
They all have a better chance than the Pacman franchise. Sorry Namco. You should have never given him arms and legs. Ever.
Wow, I kinda got off topic. Oh well, same general theme as the post. I stand by it.

Wait. I forgot about Sonic Rush. THAT, at least, was one Sonic game which fought and clawed its way out of the slow, constant, and final pit of PHAIL that the rest of the franchise was dragged into. You see, sprites float, where as polygons are very, very heavy and fall like lead.

I totally agree with the Fletcher on this one. Aside from the DS Sonic games of late, nobody should support this garbage with their hard-earned dollars.

I thought Sonic & The Secret Rings was the best Sonic game since SonicCD.
Very enjoyable once you manage to ungimp the controls.

Sonic and the Secret Rings is one of my favorite Wii titles, the controls took a little while to get used to but once I was going fast it was great.
The problem isn't the control scheme, it's that a few levels are terribly designed for that control scheme. Most of them are fantastic, though.

Yes, I'm a big fan of Sonic. I've collected every Sonic game up until now, Sonic Gems Collection, Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the PS3 version of Sonic the Hedgehog.
I will admit the Shadow the Hedgehog and ESPECIALLY the Sonic the Hedgehog games were poorly made and broken (although I did like the story). I did enjoy Sonic Riders and it wasn't as bad as everyone made it seem. As for the sequel, I will definately get this game regardless. Besides, I don't think you can judge just the screenshots alone though. Whose to say that the screenshots shown are the going to be the final product? or perhaps they're jaggy because Sega took some crappy shots... or maybe it's the PS2 version? I would hope the Wii version would be the definative version, but we'll see. I think it's still too early to judge, let's wait to see it in motion, let's wait to actually try out the gameplay.

Did you watch the trailer? Looks enjoyable. Screenshots never really do a game much justice and I would have thought anyone who is into gaming would have known that. Apart from NintendoWiiFanboy it seems.

I like Sonic, and I'll keep buying his games. Sure Shadow sucked hard...and Sonic 360/PS3 is absolutely atrocious. But Sonic and the Secret Rings is simply the best fun I've had on Wii...faint praise, I know, since the only alternatives seem to be Twilight Princess (which I played 10 years ago when it was called 'Ocarina of Time') and a bunch of minigame fests.
A lot of you will disagree, and that's fine. But I'll keep buying Sonic games as long as I see fit, thankyou very much. Meanwhile, those who hate them can exercise their right *not* to buy them. I care very, very little if the rest of the gaming world no longer cares for Sonic's outings. By and large, I still do. I don't take my instruction from bloggers, and I really wonder about the people who do.
Anyway, I'll say again that I can pretty much set my watch by JC Fletcher's anti-Sega (they're sellouts!) and anti-Sonic (omg sonic is teh sux0r olol!) rants. We've already had one post detailing the rather...sub-mediocrity of Sonic Riders' graphics. I guess we kinda need one every week from now until the game's release.

I'm not denying it, i'm a Sonic fan, does that make me instantly hated on the Internet? Ever since Shadow the Hedgehog i've been trying the games before instantly buying avoiding such crap as Rivals and NextGen.
The origional Riders was pretty fun I thought and the screenshots for that looked awful, so i'll definatly be trying this game before buying too. The logic I stated earlier applied to all games too, not just Sonic ones.
Also, way2predict #17.

Anti-alias isn't something SEGA likes to do with the Sonic Riders games... However, they look much better on the actual console... Then again, Sonic Riders 1 was over-all shit.
