This opens the door to all kinds of possibilities, some of them exciting. Maybe the game will be patched with online play when Activision and RedOctane get it figured out! Maybe the addition of online play via update will portend more updates, such as downloadable music through the Wii Shop!
To take a more cynical view, it seems likely that we'll have to pay for the online capability as a sort of "expansion pack." To take an even more cynical view, we may not want to get our hopes up about online Guitar Hero on the Wii. We're trying not to occupy the cynical extremes, ourselves, because we'd be very happy about online play or content downloads.

I dont see why they can't distribute online multiplayer modules that use the data from the games themselves, via the upcoming wiiware service. Maybe a programmer can set me straight on the difficulties that might arise from this, but it would be an awesome idea. Small downloadable executables expanding the multiplayer functions of existing games.
Maybe thats why online mode was pulled from Metroid, Retro said their not gonna do any more 'Primes, but im sure they didnt rule out the future possibility of online. I may be wrong here tho.

Retro didn't do online for Metroid Prime 3 because they knew that it would only gimp the game. Many people, even after playing the game, are happy there is no online. It is a First-Person Adventure, not a FPS. Keep that crap on Hunters.
And am I the only one who thought online and downloadable content was already official?
O well. I'll believe it when it is set in stone, instead of this beating around the bush developers always do. If other developers can support online, why not Red Octane.

I still say Online multiplayer is senseless for this game anyway. Leaderboard via WiiConnect24 would satisfy me (IF i were planning on buying this game, just not my cup of tea)

I emailed Red Octane about this interview and the response i got was that he couldnt comment specifically on the interview since he hadn't spoken to Mr. Huang but that the Wii version will have online gameplay.
