The Red Steel 2 saga is one that we're all familiar with here at Wii Fanboy HQ. And, despite purchasing the first game and finding out the hard way that it was near the worst title we'd played since Aquaman, we'll probably end up buying its sequel. Of course, some kind of promise to fix all of the first game's issues on the part of Ubisoft would also help. But, on to the news: Red Steel 2 has been confirmed in the latest issue of ONM! Total shock, right? Of course it is. You haven't even heard anything like that in your entire life.

There's a huge opportunity with this franchise. Despite the suckitude of the original, I'm really glad they decided to give it one more shot.
Let's hope they don't blow it.

Ugh, don't remind me of that horrible horrible game.
Luckily I was able to return it before the trade-in value dropped to nil.

I enjoyed it too, the game was nothing special, but i certainly didn't find it to be the deplorable beast that many gamers claimed it to be
Its definitely the kind of game that could benefit from a sequel, it just needed some tweaking

Why is it that whenever a game falls below expectations it suddenly becomes "tEH w0rst game EVAR!!!!!!!!!!" among the media? I've noticed this twice recently with Red Steel and Super Mario Sunshine and with several games in the past.

I also enjoyed it, and despite Hinkle's witty veneer, it doesn't compare to the abomination that is Aquaman.

I bought the game at 30 bucks, and I'm yet to regret it.
Although there were some horrible bugs in the game, I did enjoy it thorougly, and will probably buy Red Steel 2.
I also enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine and gave it a second run.

The game wasn't bad, it was just very average. And by no means does it reach the suckatude levels of Aquaman. Drake of the 99 Dragons was the only game that could do that.

Definitely split decisions on this one -- I did not in any way hate it, and look forward to the multiplayer in the second. That + online = gold.
The crap that passed for cut scenes, though... tsk, tsk.

I'm with the likers on this one, it did have plenty of bug issues and bad implementation but overall a pretty decent game for a launch title. Think people go a bit over the top when jumping on the Red Steel hate wagon, there are plenty of worst games than this on the Wii.
Funny enough I recently went back to Red Steel to quirst my thirst while I wait for Metroid Prime 3(in the post), only just completed it last night. It's pretty tough towards the end.

I too bought the game @ $30 mark, I knew what I was getting into: FOR THE RECORD: I do not regret buying it.
Though, I pray for the sequel, that RedSteel 2 allows you to skip those cheesy cutscenes and offer better acting.
Other than that, better(ie MP3:C) controls and WIFI!!!

Not sure what all the haterade is about...Red Steel was pretty damn awesome. Both visually and gameplay wise. The controls weren't perfect but for a launch title I was pretty impressed.
And the story was awesome as well. So I'm definitely amped up for Red Steel 2.

I liked the first one. I didn't buy it, I just rented it twice. I beat it, but my only problem was the Katas. Those things would not come the way you want it to. But other than that and the controls for the FPS part being slow, not too much was messed up. I liked it. I just found it hard. But once you had some good guns, you were set.

Red Steel was a very good game. The only problem was that they didn't actually bother to finish making it.
It may not have had the polish of Call Of Duty 3, but unlike Call Of Duty, at least Red Steel was original and fun.
And about the cutscenes: At least they didn't use any of that generic pixar/hollywood-wannabe bullcrap that MOST so-called "game" developers cram in hours of INSTEAD of actually realizing they're supposed to be making, you know, a VIDEOGAME, not a fucking movie. Sheesh, I'll take Red Steel's low-quality cutscenes over that bullshit from games like Metal Gear Solid anyday.

Well said.
I'll probably get flamed for this, but another good example of that phenomenon is Daikatana. It wasn't perfect, but it certainly wasn't the steaming pile everyone claimed it was. But for most people, it didn't matter how good it was: It could have been Halo or BioShock and people still would have shit on it just because they were in "Romero sux0rs lollllo!!1" mode. Shit, most people didn't even bother playing it before they had made up their mind that it sucked.
"It sucked because of the limited save system!": Limited saves suck, but that certainly didn't seem to hurt public perception of Resident Evil, did it?
"It sucked because of bad graphics!" Oh please, they were every bit as good as anything else at the time.
"The friendly-AI sucked!" Yea, so did ALL friendly-AI in those days.
"It sucked because the weapons were generic!" Not as generic as Quake 3's, but that game was far more well-received.
"It sucked because Romero sux, lol1!!" Well, gee, you've got me there (*rolls eyes*).
The Final Fantasy movie (Spirits Within) was another example. People hated it because it wasn't particularly epic and because it had nothing to do with any of the Final Fantasy games. Nevermind the fact that, at the time, none of the Final Fantasy GAMES had anything to do with each other. Nevermind the fact that you just can't DO "epic" in a movie format in the first place (even Lord of the Rings was effectively just a summary of the books).
People need to stop looking at the world in black and white and learn that there are more possibilities out there than just "Best game ever!" and "Worst game ever!"

I liked Red Steel. Beat it 100%. The main bug is when pointing accidentally off-screen, you'd spin like crazy. In MP3 - you just stop turning. A simple fix for RS2. Also, the lighting in the game was awesome. Very realistic once you got to about the 30% point. From there the graphics excelled.

Red Steel 1 could have been really cool, cheesy b-movie story/acting mixed with good graphics/art and plently of mindless shooting, if only the awful controls didn't ruin that potential
If RS2 fixes the controls ands adds online, we could have a pretty solid Wii shooter on our hands.

Hmm, that makes me really worried about Metroid Prime 3 (Yea, I haven't gotten it yet.) I *liked* the fact that you kept turning when pointing offscreen. I've played games that didn't do that (I wish I could remember what), and it was INCREDIBLY awkward. Whenever you needed to turn quickly, the cursor would inevitably end up offscreen, even if only momentarily, and it would completely screw you up. Absolute unplayable pain in the ass.
