According to some scans found over at the Mario Kart Wii forums, there is a whole slew of features that are set to rock our socks when the game releases. ONM speculates that the game will feature 16-player online functionality, as well as graphically-updated versions of maps from the DS game.
Of course, such information couldn't be reported without the whole internet going bananas. And, ONM (with their bucket loads of integrity) had to shoot all of our hopes and dreams to the ground, as they stated that "details printed in Official Nintendo Magazine 21 regarding Mario Kart Wii were healthy speculation on our part and are in no way an official announcement from Nintendo." They further add that they "are sorry if we have mislead anyone. We do not set out to mislead our readers. ONM apologises profusely for any misunderstandings that this has caused."
If they didn't intend to mislead their readers, then why would they print the information as fact? Clearly, they think this information is legit, otherwise they wouldn't have printed it. But, then again, it is ONM ...
[Thanks, Ian!]

I DO NOT want voice support. There are too many homophobic and racist 10 year olds. Shut up and play.

Voice support is a requirement for fun online play with your actual friends. I have Mario Strikers Charged and play online with my pals but it's not nearly as fun as it should be without the voice support. We usually put our phones on speaker phone and have a blast but Ninentdo should support this out of the box instead of forcing fans to use up cell phone battery!

Has no one noticed that they are briefly racing on a DS track in that video from jeuxfrance?? 24 seconds in, it's the first tropical 'ring' track from Kart:DS.
There also looks to be remakes of some of the 'older' tracks. I believe Peach Beach is also on there. DS content wouldn't shock me. Maybe not all the courses, but at least some of the 'favs'.
That seems to confirm the story ONM printed. Reggie also says that 'more racers equals more fun' but that you'd need to 'stay tuned' to find out HOW many. I would bank on that 16 player online thing being legit.

I'm with ELIJAH & Golbaba, can't stand these voice support paranoid comments, if you don't like it turn it off(for sure it'll be optional). If they nail the controls and offer up voice support I'll be playing this for months if not years, without being able to chat and taunt my mates though I'll no doubt head back to Live games after getting bored of the silence. Honestly these days it's easy to build up a lrage friends list to play regualrly and have a laugh with, I built up 100 on Live in no time & never play random idiots!
Anyway, guess we'll find out in Q3 2008(and yes, that's an intentional mistake/correction, a giant franchise like MarioKart in Q1, no chance IMO).
