Even in a month when hardware sales are down, Nintendo's Straight Up Success bus just keeps on rolling. Let's hope this keeps on challenging Iwata and company to avoid "doing the easy." Even the re-priced Xbox 360 couldn't compete with the Nintendo juggernaut. - Nintendo Wii: 403K
- Nintendo DS: 383K
- Microsoft Xbox 360: 277K
- Sony PS2: 202K
- Sony PSP: 151K
- Sony PS3: 131K
1. Madden NFL 08 (Xbox 360)
2. Madden NFL 08 (PlayStation 2)
3. BioShock (Xbox 360)
4. Madden NFL 08 (PlayStation 3)
5. Wii Play (Wii)
6. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)
7. Mario Strikers: Charged (Wii)
8. Guitar Hero 2 Bundle (PlayStation 2)
9. Mario Party 8 (Wii)
10. Guitar Hero Encore (PlayStation 2)

The rankings for the madden games were obvious, another thing to add is that i dont think MP3:C HAS recieved the amount of promotion as BIOSHOCK. And the madden games are just annual updates, no matter if the sequel sucks people(OVERZEALOUS sports fans) will just wait untill next year to see if they corrected the wrongs of it's predecessor.

i don't know that MP3:C's promotion is at fault for these figures. I don't think Iwata and Co. have jack to worry about as MP3 was only out for 3 days in August!

Personally, I think the reason that Corruption hasn't sold as much as BioShock lies in one small part of the title: "3"
Think about it. Corruption is a sequel in a long-standing game series. People who don't like Metroid games won't buy it. People who don't like Prime games won't buy it. People who haven't played Prime games won't buy it.
I haven't played BioShock, so I can't say which is better. But it's certainly enjoying the success of a game that is (rightfully) being called innovative and fresh. Prime 1 got the same kind of attention. And no matter what Corruption was like, there's no way Retro could've made it completely "new."
I'm just glad Retro put as much effort into Corruption as they did. I love it, even if it isn't as revolutionary as Prime 1.

I think the sales figures belie the different demographics in the Wii and PS3/360's markets.
Wii users are more likely to buy from a breadth of titles, whereas the PS3/360 gamers are the type who tend to lurch from one major title to another and as such they are more likely to drive the 'big' titles up the charts.

I once again have buyer's remorse. It happened when I picked SPM over LoZ:TP and now with RE4 over MP3:C.

Its good to see good games merit good sales (lets see if i can't cram good more into that statement)
But, off topic:
Why are we not discussing the INSANELY good-looking Ice Climbers character models that are showing up on Smashbros.com?

Don't forget that NPD is based on money sales. With Wii games clocking in at $49.99 vs. 360 & PS3 games at $59.99. So Madden Wii has to sell 20% better than the PS3 version to equal sales for example.
