Sadly, we don't have video for you at the moment (yours truly has a sporting event to attend and I ran into some video editing problems), but when I get back, you can bet I'll be uploading the video (however late that may be). So, you have something to look forward to if you are going to be up that late (or something to look forward to when you get up in the morning). Or, whatever. You just have something to look forward to.

Super Thunder Blade (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
Sure, the game is all kinds of old (1988 was when it released), but its mindless gameplay has managed to hold up to the test of time. It's fairly fun throughout, but for 800 Wii Points, the "hold one button and dodge incoming fire" gameplay mechanic isn't worth the price of admission.

World Class Baseball (Turbografx16, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
World Class Baseball is a fun little baseball game that is ultimately done in by its lackluster controls. See, when on defense, if a pop fly comes to the outfield or what have you, you're in control of your entire defensive team all at once. It makes it tough to make the smart play. Also, it's physically impossible to get a double play in this game as everyone throws the ball so slow. Avoid it.

Yoshi's Story (N64, 1 player, 1000 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
That concludes our look at this week's Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo's Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii.

The outfielders in World Class Baseball does control somewhat like RBI, but your review far overstates the issues. As someone who has played a hundred plus hours of the game I can say without reservation that behind Baseball Stars it is the best baseball game that could be possibly added to the VC. It is difficult to get double plays (but far from impossible, how many games did you play?)
What makes me love the game is the realistic scores. You won't find players jacking the ball out of the park every other pitch, in fact they hit less homeruns in the game than players do currently in the majors (the game was pre-steroid baseball and the gameplay reflects it).
The game is often a pitcher's duel, which gets points from me. However, what gets the most points is that I feel responsible when I lose. There is no computer comeback in the 9th inning. I lose when I leave pitches out over the plate or put high-hitting, poor-fielding players on the field, making for a very hitter-friendly affair.
If you really like baseball, World Class Baseball is a must purchase. I've played many a baseball game (High Heat 2002 on the PC being my favorite) and I can honestly say this is one of the best baseball games ever made. It isn't perfect, the infield defense is a bit slow and the computer AI at first has issues, but the game is a very solid representation of what baseball really is. Match-ups, calling the right pitch, and a couple of inches.

The baby kinda turned me off on what was otherwise an excellent game in Yoshi's Island
But Yoshi's Story was infinitely awesome, still have it and love it for my N64

Russell, perhaps it's that it is so true to baseball we didn't have so much fun. We've been spoiled by arcadey Mario baseball you see.

Mario Baseball is great. My wife picked it up for me and I was quite pleasantly surprised. It's a game I played within the last week despite having owned it for over a year. For me, THAT is the mark of a good game.
WCB is really an anomaly. It only takes 15-20 minutes to play through a game, but the score results look like a real baseball game. So it is arcade-y in the quick play sense, but the scores are realistic. I really like the mix. Being able to do things like making your base runners change directions in a split second makes the game feel responsive, more so than is realistic, but it's a great feeling anyway.
The biggest thing missing from the VC version game is the stats book...which tells you every player's abilities including their running speed, throwing power and hitting power. After losing my stats book I bought a copy of the stats book on eBay 5 years ago. A quick scan of the internet came up empty on finding a copy of the stats book online. Finding out that teams like the Chicago Winds are fast and solid defenders with poor hitting, while the New York Apples are just the opposite is quite valuable and totally changes the game. Editing the rosters with the minor league rosters is really a crap shoot without the stats book as you only have the player's statistics, which quite often aren't in-line with their 'abilities,' and even when they are you don't know their defensive abilities.
Another thing that I haven't seen mentioned is the ability to control the type of hit that you get. Pressing towards the batter on the D-pad at the moment of contact will provide a line drive, pressing away will produce a softer hit. It's simple and adds a lot to the gameplay.
Finally, if you really want to crank some homeruns, player 2 player and hold select and run until you choose both teams and you'll get the Champs, who are essentially a Hall of Fame team.
