It's no secret that Wii games (heck, insert your Nintendo system of choice there, really) often look better in motion than they do in screenshots. Even
Metroid Prime 3 had its
jagged moments in stills pre-release, but once we saw it in our living rooms, all doubts and questions disappeared forever. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that
NiGHTS looks absolutely amazing in this latest gameplay footage. Sure, we've seen some
real inconsistencies in screenshots, but this footage is not only lush and beautiful, but it serves as a lovely send-up of the original.
We've read a lot of impressions from various sources this morning as well, and people seem universally pleased with the title, except for one issue -- the framerate seems a little slow. Otherwise, the game seems to move and control like a dream. One of our Joystiq operatives on the spot reports that reps on hand stated that there are no motion controls in the game, but we're also being told that there may be multiple control schemes. We hope to clarify just exactly what's going on here soon.

Upon Watching the video:
I am happy to see that the disney-esque landscapes are there, that game looks easily as good as Secret Rings, and lots more colorful (Secret Rings' greatest graphical fault was its use of the boring, realistic tones, MP3 was more colorful than Secret Rings)

A "send-up" is a parody.

Yo, down in front! I also wish the guy playing had been more fluid but any Nights Footage is good footage.

Either the controls are horrible or the person playing sucks, or both.

I played Nights back when it was on the Sega Saturn and I didn't really enjoy the game because it was basically,if I remember correctly, about flying through rings as you see in the video. Nothing really to get excited about but I guess it does look pretty good on the Wii.

the guy playing had no clue on how Nights is supposed to be played, so people, don't mind this video. For better or for worse this game seems to be just a graphically upgraded sequel to the original nights, but that's just what i wanted from it although i'd like to see if they can come up with some new control scheme involving the wiimote.

The problem with this game not having motion controls (if true, but we already know it's somewhat false since there's footage of it being played by using the Wiimote as a pointer) is that if it's going to basically be a remake of the original, then WHY NOT put it on the 360 or PS3 and really let it shine?
I mean, I totally hate to say that, seeing as how I'm one of the people who was aching for a NiGHTS sequel for years, but aside from the fact that this game would probably sell better to Nintendo fans than 360 or PS fans, if they aren't going to have some sort of all out motion control system in place, it just seems like such a waste. Especially since the DC NiGHTS sequel was specifically going to come with some sort of motion controller pack-in.
Fear and doubt aside, this game looks really good, from what we can see. Granted, it's a compressed web video being viewed from a camcorder, but at least they're staying true to the original. It would still be nice to see some direct high quality footage, though.
I know I sound like a Negative Nancy, but what can I say? I REALLY don't want to see this game get messed up.
I don't want it to just be "good". I want to look back at this game in 5 years and be able to say, "This is one of the best games that came out during this era!"
Right now it just looks good...and that ain't good enough for a NiGHTS sequel!

I agree with samfish... the video looks cool, but man... no motion controls? there are very few wii games that don't use motion controls, and most of them are ones that are so complicated it would make a big differenc to make them have motion controls... but we're talking Nights here! If anything this game would wholly embrace motion controls! It'd be perfect! Maybe it is going to be using motion but the floor demo wasn't?
