The
Namco Museum Remix collection includes, in addition to wacky, waggly remakes of arcade classics like
Galaga, authentic emulated classic games. Just a few days after the
first Neo Geo game became available on the Virtual Console, SNK
announced their intention to release
King of Fighters and
Samurai Shodown collections on disc.
We don't mind buying collections on disc, since they're inevitably cheaper than buying even a few of the games separately on the Virtual Console. How do you feel, though? Do these collections make the Virtual Console redundant? Is there room for both? What are the advantages of one approach over another?

I got a pretty good deal on my Zelda Collector's Disc--8.04 on ebay incl shipping. Deal not typical, but that's $30 worth of VC games (Assuming MM comes to VC eventually) that aren't inextricably tied to one console. I don't like having less control over my stuff.
Logically, since only about 40% of Wii consoles are online, there's an offline market for classic games.

I prefer discs. Like Mian said, they're not tied to one console. And in the distant future, those VC servers are gonna come down!
Price is a big deal, too. The two Sonic collections for GameCube are $20 new each. On VC, you'd spend $24 bucks just to download Sonic 1, 2, and 3!
But, there are those that just want a certain game. Plus, the advantage of VC is the interrupt saves.

Think of it this way. Say I can buy a CD for less than buying all of the tracks separately on iTunes. If I like most of the music on the CD, then I will probably buy the CD, as it will be less money for me in the end for more value. But, say I only liked one of the songs on the CD. Then, I'd download them from iTunes, as it would be a better value for me and cheaper.

Great analogy (and name) from Alexisonfire.
There are only a handful of NeoGeo games that I want, each coming from a different series of SNK games. While "collection" discs are a good deal for some people, the VC releases interest me more.
What NeoGeo games will I consider buying?
- King of the Monsters (or KotM2)
- one Samurai Showdown game
- maybe an Art of Fighting game
- maybe a Metal Slug game
- maybe a Magic Drop game
- maybe Windjammers

Better deal on the disc, but gotta love little Mario jumping and collecting coins as my VC games download.
