Maybe when Reggie said we could expect something good by the end of September, he meant the actual end. That means he's got until Sunday, but he's cutting things quite close. Maybe sometime today we'll hear something ... or do you think it's silly to get our hopes up? A lot of people have been speculating that it has something to do with recent forum closures or the changes in store for Nintendo Power, but unless we're getting that content in channel form (a possibility, to be sure), then that's probably not it, since Reggie was talking about channels and WiiConnect24 at the time.So what -- and where -- is it? We've been very good, and we deserve a surprise.

is it just for the USA!?!?!?
what about us here in europe, we need something to a surprise considering we are lagging behind all you on games i mean we still have a month till metroid hits our shores then over another month till mario galaxy. and with lots of other games we are all anticipating being pushed back till next year i think we all deserve a nice surprise dont you.

I was saying the EXACT same thing to my girlfriend, last night (she was VERY interested....no not really). I really hope we're not being set up for a letdown.

I don't think anything's coming at this point.
Oh well. Probably would've been a letdown anyway.

I was wondering if Reggie didn't mean all the kickass VC games that Europe got, then i recalled that Reggie was NOA President, and wouldn't herald something like that
This is a mystery, but my bets would be on a free Nintendo Media channel with forums, videos, and news, to supplant all the official stuff they're selling/destroying
Either that that i listed above, or there won't be a surprise at all, one or the other

Wasn't Reggie talking about the Check Mii Out Channel in the interview in which he said that?

It hasn't happened yet: i do not think it was online in brawl or anything like that. There will be a blue light in our Wii and it will probably happen sunday.

I'm going to go with nothing. Whatever it was it got pushed back. NOA has bigger things to deal with than bonuses for its installed wii owners.

At the time I thoght it would be an announcment of NEO GEO games on the VC, and that is exactly what I think it is/was.

Maybe we will get the limited edition Super Mario Bro. the lost levels that the PAL regions recently got. I doubt it will be the Check Mii Out Channel, since we have been expecting that it wouldn't really be a surprise. All we can be sure about is that it will be in the form of a channel if we even get the surprise. I still would like to see a free VC title on your birthday but that is wishful thinking. Now that I think of it I believe all of our surprises so far have been on a weekend or early AM on a Monday. So if we get something new we should have it by the time we wake up Monday morning.

I'm pretty damn sure that Nintendo has shafted us, again. In the same manner that they always do.
'Online out of the box! Smash Bros. as a launch title with online! WOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!'
Shenanigans.

Haven't both Smash online and Link's Crossbow Training been announced this month?
If there's still an announcement coming, I'd say it's about a firmware update to allow USB storage and to run VC games off of both USB and SD media. Or at least I hope it is :|

I also think it'll be either nothing or something of nothing.
Nintendo seem to be quietly enjoying their success ATM and not too bothered about giving us anything much new in the way of news or exciting new prospects.
I can't really see any new announcements until next spring(although I'd like to be proved wrong), I'd hoped it could be an announcement of a headset, maybe even a chat channel to make the current WiFi games voice enabled among registered friends. Of course I know I'm being extremely over ambitious there.

It probably has to do with channels AND the closed-down forums AND the website revamp. I think they're making a new channel that integrates into their website.

It does make me wonder...they DID just "indefinitely" shut down the NSider forums, didn't they? Maybe a reformatting, to make them more Wii-friendly? I mean...I don't know if that's all that great anyway, but it's possible? Who knows, maybe I'm way off, but it's just one thing I thought of...

Reggie wouldn't mention that in such a way as to make it sound like Wii channel or WiiConnect24 feature, and he also would have made a big deal about how that was the surprise when they announced it.

I'm pretty sure the "surprise" has come and gone with either the Zelda/zapper pack-in or SSBB online mode. I would really love to be proven wrong though and wake up to a flashing blue light tomorrow.

Definitely agreeing with most on here, the US is getting effed in the ay. (if ya know what I mean). Japan and Europe might be getting everything special cause they got the Wii later? I dunno about everyone else, but the absence of a lot of these special events and awesome VC games is kind of ticking me off as a Wii owner, as well as most other Wii owners I know.
Also, yes, Smash not being at launch like it was claimed somewhat ticked me off, considering that it was a major factor that made me get the Wii.
I just hope it's not some pointless channel or website integration. Unless by website integration they mean "HAY NO MORE CHILD-SAFE LINES OF NUMBERS TO PROTECT CHILDRENS". I'd like to see some Xbox-Live type of service finally. I'm tired of asking people for numbers for EVERY game.

It's gotta be big. The forums are gone for a while. We haven't had a update for about 2 months now I think. Nothing big except the Wii Clock, at least. But my guess would be an Nsider page more sutible for the Wii or an Nsider Channel, where everything is more accesible than the regular Nsider. But it's still unclear. It could be storage, Media Channel, Demo Channel, anything. I just hope I wake up to a blue light tomorrow. :)

If we see the blue light any this weekend it will be when we wake up Monday morning. It has been that way for the past four updates. Check your Wii between 12 and 3 AM Eastern time Monday morning and if there is something then it should be there by then. I for one am hoping that USB flash drive support comes soon my Wii is out of memory and a flash drive that acts like a hard drive would be heaven. Also if you have been following the news of GH3 then you will know that it has downloadable content but it will not be used on the Wii version until it has some kind of mass storage.
Here are some reasons the wii will be getting mass storage support soon.
-guitar Hero 3 download content
-Civilization Revolution map downloads
-Over the next six months the Wii will get many more online games each with the possibility of providing downloadable content.
-larger VC games coming soon

@ Jeremy:
Civ Rev map downloads...have you ever played a Civilization? It doesn't really work like that...unless this is different from all the other Civ games, in which case I humbly apologize.
And it would really REALLY piss me off if the 'surprise' was that a game we KNEW was online and was PROMISED at launch to be online was online...a year late.

The wikipedia page of Civilization Revolution states that the game will have downloadable content. I just made the assumption that it could be maps but still any game that offers downloadable content needs plenty of memory on the system for that content.

Hey nothing new today. Which sucks. I did go and read closely to the message that is posted on the NSider page. It has a lot about the Wii and the DS. Almost sounds like there could be something on down the road for Wii and DS owners to communicate in an easy manner. I personally would still like to see some form of mass storage for the Wii. Use of the SD card or a USB flash drive as expanded memory or even a hard drive would give developers more to work with and we could see downloadable content in games such as maps and expansion packs.
