After violently wrestling away this post's title from one of our own, this fine blogger began the investigation involving the mysterious pre-order coin for the upcoming sphere romp, Super Mario Galaxy. While it is unconfirmed if the coin is in fact the mock-up you see above, we're hard-pressed to come up with any other designs that might be better than that of the image above.
You may have already voiced your opinions about the design in the previous post, but care to chime in with your thoughts regarding the design? Think we should be tossed something else for pre-ordering the game?
It mints money!

I mentioned this minutes ago in a DS Fanboy comment.
I am kind of disappointed if this is all we get. Nintendo has tried to win Mario fans back since Sunshine (no comment about whether they really needed to). It seems like they could have done something better than this, especially since we didn't get anything at all with Twilight Princess or any other recent releases. While cheap free stuff is certainly better than no free stuff at all, few things could really be as pointless as a coin. I mean, it just sits there. That's all.
By the way, I can't wait for Phoenix Wright's release!

@1, I don't see why you feel like, in order to win audiences, Nintendo must give not only free things, but good free things. I don't know what games you buy, but whenever I preorder games, it's only for my convenience, and I never get anything that people who buy the game when it hits the streets don't get as well. And really, if you're preordering a game, and your main concern is the free gift that comes with it, what's the point?

Ehh...It's an okay item. Elebits gave a stuffed animal for their preorder. I kind of wish it was something cooler than a coin (that I'll probably lose in about a week). Maybe a necklace or a sticker would even be better in my opinion.

Well, it's an incentive. I don't feel that Nintendo *needs* to give free gifts. It's just like a bonus. I only preorder games when there is something to get by doing so and I know many others that do the same.
Do you mean to say that you don't know any games that had preorder gifts? I could think of a few right off the top of my head: all three Phoenix Wright games, Zelda: Wind Waker, Elebits, and Castlevania:Portrait of Ruin. And there were rumors (apparently false) of a Contra 4 preorder.
I'm not so much saying that Nintendo needs to give us gifts, it's just a bonus as a reward for those that buy games early. Without any reason to buy it earlier, a lot of people wait until the price of games go down or until they could buy it used. This is a way for Nintendo to have people buy their game the day it comes out.
I'm having difficulty explaining it as I certainly agree that Nintendo doesn't really need to give preorder gifts. However, I feel that it is a nice bonus for the devout fans, especially considering we don't have an equivalent of the Nintendo Rewards Points system in Japan here in America.

This sounds cool to me. I am married, and my wife and I want a more "grown-up" looking place when it comes to decoration. While stuffed items and figures are neat, they just don't "go" anymore as I grow older. At least a coin is small...and I can carry it in my pocket..or put it in a desk....less to dust.

I am really shocked at all the comments I am reading (here and other places) that are disappointed with this coin. Everyone seems to feel like we should be getting something better. Like what? This coin is an awesome pre-order bonus and we should be thankful for even getting anytime. I almost feel like people are expecting to get the game free or something.
Nintendo doesn't need to give out anything, but they are anyway for its fans. I almost wonder why they bother since they always seem to get negative responses as a result.
I for one am very excited about this coin. Thanks for the coin Nintendo!

Although my larger-than-life Dewy's Adventure plush is cool, a Super Mario Coin is not only thematically apropriate, it is less likley to make people my age pitty me.
As far as free swag goes, this is key. In for 1.

Of course, all pre-order bonuses pale in comparison to the animation cell I got for Phantom Hourglass and the Collector's disc for Wind Waker.

i think this coin should be something that resembles an actual coin from a mario game. that would be sweet. the mock-up isnt that great, it looks nothing like a coin does in the game. now if i only had a Wii i'd pre-order this right away.

I work in the electronics department of a Target store and we have some pictures of the coin (I think... I didn't pay a TON of attention). I'll try to take a picture and email you guys. BTW the coins will be given to you on the release date of the game, not when you buy the preorder card.

I think it's pretty cool. The Nintendo World Store had Twilight Princess coins that were really nicely detailed, so if this is of the same caliber then sign me up!
