Mario Kart Wii just got a bit less kartish
If you're a Nintendo fan, today has been one hell of a ride. Now, we find out that Mario Kart Wii will feature bikes, contradicting the very game itself (it is kart racing, afterall). Still, variety is the spice of life, so we're not complaining. Well, actually, we'd like to complain just a bit about the release date being bumped back to Spring 2008, but we guess you can't rush greatness.

I really like the idea of motorcycles being included.
It's just a change of vehicle - its not going to affect the gameplay and its not like they removed karts.

Can't complain about this delay
Puts it out of the realm of No More Heroes (and now, sadly, Brawl)
But i like this idea. If they do for this game what they did for Brawl (go all out on details), it will be truly excellent

Nice! I the earlier screenshot looked like a dirtbike, but that is a dead ringer for the old Paul Smart Ducati (with a princess paintjob).
Throw Daisy on an old Moto Guzzi and I have my online match.

Motorcycles in a car game? Weird. Haven't heard that before. Maybe next, they have some kind of awards or "kudos" for doing tricks...

Damn that is one low-res video
But its contents sent my anticipation for this game up by an order of magnitude. Tricks = yes please

Well, in Mario Kart DS you raced in some very un-kart vehicles, including a sedan and a front-end loader tractor.

Yeah, I don't see how this is any more strange than having cars, trucks, tanks, pipes with wheels, etc in the last two Mario Kart games. If anything, it makes far more sense for a bike to be racing a car than for a warp pipe to be racing against a baby carriage.

Wow I wasn't even planning on getting it, but the bikes and the flips changed my mind. (Turning wallet upside down looking for dollars not labeled: Money for brawl!) At least theres is button support for the wiimote and gamecube controller support.

Well, Kart is in the name but, so what? As long as karts are still the main focus of the game, I'll buy it. The delay is disappointing, but from the looks of the game so far, it seems well worth it.

i so cant wait for this game now!
i heard about the bikes saw warios bike now peaches bike! this is going to be awsome!!!
although the bike inclusion will annoy some as it changes the demographic of the game, i think its a well needed breath of fresh air! to many companies take their ip's and just churn out new version but change little at least nintendo have the balls to try and do something different with their important ip's just look at the every changing marion games for a start.

ok back again, i was looking at some older and newer shots of the game and it seems now i could be wrong it seems that there could quite possibly be 3 different vehicles for each charater.
no no im serious we just got told about the bikes ok, you have all seen the cars (luigis looks like and old f1 car from the 1920's) and then looking through older pics i see everyone in go karts (ie the old school origional looking carts back from the n64 version backwards) so to me that makes 3 different types of vehicles we have seen i wonder if all 3 will be in the final game or if they will just stick with the bikes and cars

Um.. Did anyone play Mario Kart DS? A good number of the rides in that game weren't even karts. Shoot, I think that either Wario or Waluigi had a cycle. Dry bones had a freakin tank! This isn't all that different.
