It looks like that rumored Prince of Persia prequel is going to be a reality soon, as word hits that the title has been confirmed in the latest issue of Computer and Video Games Magazine. Dubbed Prince of Persia: Ghosts of the Past, the title is supposedly headed in a more fantasy-like direction, ditching the dark material of the last two titles in the trilogy. People are saying it's going to be a mix between Ico, Zelda and Sands of Time.Sounds like it already has some awfully large shoes to fill.

The first Prince of Persia game looked like alot of fun, the next two games seemed like someone tried really hard to turn the franchise into a Devil May Cry / Ninja Gaiden competitor.
I will have to agree though that the original Prince of Persia game... (I mean the old school PoP) was alot like Ico mixed with a 2d Zelda game. If you can revive this kind of gameplay it sounds to me like this new game will be more like a 3d version of the original, which should be an amazing game.

The first one was great. The Prince had character, but they tried to make it dark for the second one on, and it failed miserably to me as it became generic badass tough guy crap. The gameplay was still intact, but they ruined everything that made Sands of Time charming. I read something about the lead designer, the guy responsible for eviling it up, even had the texture people scan his tribal tattoos to use as textures in the game.
What a monster douche.

@3, sounds like John Edward (not -s) has some competition for his Biggest Douche In The Universe award. I was wondering who was responsible for the "evil-metal-thong-chick-plus-heavy-metal" abomination. I actually winced when I got to that part the first time.
I loved the ending of the 3rd one, though -- [spoiler] I got a chill when I heard the last lines of the ending: "Most people think time is like a river, that flows swift and sure in one direction. But I have seen the face of time, and I can tell you, they are wrong. Time is an ocean in a storm. You may wonder who I really am and why I say this. Come, and I will tell you a tale like none you have ever heard...." It's the intro to the first game! Man, I get goosebumps even now writing about it. Call me weird, but I'm a sucker for that kind of writing.

Ico, Zelda, and Sands of Time sounds like the most heavenly creation of a game. That most certainly is some big shoes to fill. Is that really a screenshot of it? It looks like it could be a Wii game.
