Unless you're a citizen of Japan and own a Famicom system, this bit of news is likely to not affect you. However, should you fulfill those requirements, you might like to know that Nintendo of Japan has ceased to support the old piece of hardware. You're probably one who still plays the thing, we imagine, so you might want to take it easy on the old gal, as this goes into effect on the 31st of this month.
Also of note, Nintendo of Japan will be dropping support for the Super Famicom, N64, Game Boy and Game Boy Pocket, as well.

I believe this means that, if you're in Japan, and your Famicom breaks down, Nintendo won't help repair or replace it.

That's not that crazy. Apple doesn't support OS9 systems anymore, nor do their new operating systems run on anything but 1GHZ G4's or higher.
It's pretty sad, but hey, that's progress. I'm sure there are plenty of places where you can get your NES repaired.

Have you never pulled out your old school systems just for the hell of it?
I imagine they still make/made the console and accessories for it in small (very small) quantities for those who might order new parts online or something. Hell, the AC adaptor for my NES are broken atm so I can't enjoy my games from back in the day...
