This latest trailer for the trampoline event in Mario & Sonic at the Olympics could be conceived as "fun looking" if the folks playing it in the video were any indication. We have a more keen eye, however, as we looked to the controls and event itself as an indication for how fun the event could be. And, for us, it looks like it lacks.
So, why post it, you are probably thinking? Well, as always, we value your opinion most, so we want to hear what you have to say? Won't you humor us?

I don't think the best way to market a Wii game is to have the "player" yelling at the onscreen character to perform a flip when the motion controls prove unresponsive.

Just like every Mario Party, this looks like it could be fun in the moderate, casual way that everyone needs every now and then. I don't think anyone can go entirely on Metroid, we need a little Tetris every now and then, so to speak. It's not among the most inventive of mini-games but that's not to say it won't be fun. I doubt we'd be laughing straight through the whole thing like those people in the video but I can imagine getting some friends and having decent fun with this game.

Yeah, that is a bad commercial
But like FX-1 said, its good for a bit of light, casual fun (which i haven't had on Wii since Wii Sports, as i've been to busy with real Wii games and DS stuff)
Plus, its flamin' Sonic & Mario (although Brawl has that). I would say rent it

I love Nintendo. I really do. And while I never really owned anything by Sega, I had no reason to particularly dislike them.
Until now.
I hate having to comment on all these threads about this game. I say to myself "No, I've already told them what I think." Then, I watch the video and I get angry. Really angry.
I mean, the gameplay looks atrocious. How is flailing your arm around intuitive or even fun? This game seems to devalue everything the Wii once stood for.
I desperately hope this is not a trend to come. Hopefully, this will open publishers' eyes that they will need to actually consider how their Wii games control. Because not every motion they can shoehorn into a game will be good. Case in point.

It looks like you do what the pictures tell you to.
Is that any different than the minigames of the past?

Archibold,
While I agree that motion sensitive controls can be very annoying when used improperly, you need to consider the alternative. Remember games like SSX before the Wii? To do trick stuns you have to enter some whacky, nonsensical button combination to perform some stunt on screen. The combo had nothing to do with the stunt, it didn't add to the gameplay *at all*. Yet everyone was used to button combos, so noone complained. It's stupid, it makes no sense, yet we trust it because it is the convention (and only option, again).
Now we have motion controls built into a system. It isn't some stupid eye-toy that .01% of games support. It is native. So if you're a developer that is creating a collection of mini-games for the party setting, what do you do? Do you have whacky button combos to perform stunts/tricks in these mini-games, or do you use motion controls to try and, at the very least, add SOME sense of interaction between the user and the avatar on screen? To me, the latter is the obvious choice. SSX Blur is by far one of my favorite games for the Wii, and it is by and large simply because the motion controls go such a long way towards making me feel like I'm actually skiing. Granted, we're still a *very* long ways from having that true sensation, but it is a huge step forward from button-combo tricks and pure-analog movement.

I think the game could be fun but I am only planning to rent this game.
I used to love Sega and back in the day that was who I supported. Now I honestly think that they just need to roll over and stop trying. The more games they make the more they tarnish the name they once had.

I don't think real gamers really act like this. The only time we get excited, the words coming out of our mouth are usually curses and obscenities.

I do understand that the motion controls are an alternative for equally non-fun button mashing. However, with the Wii, they are taking these moments of button mashing, turning them into really mediocre motion controls, and sticking them in horrible minigames. My point is, people wouldn't want to play a trampoline game with traditional controls. They shouldn't try to make one for the Wii just because it has motion controls.

Yeah they seem to be having too much fun playing a simple mini game. Especially the one dude, when he was not even playing he was laughing at himself... very suspicious...
