Famitsu <3s Super Mario Galaxy
This is so unsurprising it almost doesn't qualify as news, but as it may influence, ooh, the three of you who weren't going to pick the game up, we'll press on. Basically, Famitsu has just reviewed Super Mario Galaxy, and awarded it a quite stonking 38/40. The score consists of two 10s and two 9s from Famitsu editors, and exactly matches the grade dished out to Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess last year.
In particular, the Famitsu bunch were happy to talk up the game's difficulty curve and level design, while also reserving praise for the boss fights and the ways in which the Wiimote is put to use. In a nutshell, then: Galaxy is drool-inducingly ace. Big surprise, eh?

In case anyone is interested, I guess SM64 received a 39 while sunshine received a 38... I'm sure everyones expectations of galaxy is far higher then they were of sunshine which IMHO was a huge disappointment. Never the less, I'm hoping this will be THE next mario and from early reviews, it sounds like this very well may be the case

I just got done playing this game. It's very fun. One interesting thing I noticed is that the game runs at 60 fps. Silky smooth.

Just for some perspective, Famitsu also rated Lair (for the PS3) a 34/40. So we can expect Mario Galaxy to be roughly 10% better!

And this is only coming out in November 16th for me? Awesome, looking forward to getting this, even though I know nothing about it. (Maybe, it's better that way!)

Famitsu always seems to be a bit off on their reviews. Yes I am looking forward to this game but I am waiting a week or so after it's release to get it. At least that way everyone who buys this game will have spoken out about it by that point. After Sunshine I am just a little hesitant about this one. I want this game to be good I really do and I really hope that it rules, I just have my doubts.

You people go on like Sunshine was a train wreck. It was a very good game. I'm sure Galaxy is going to be better, but wow. It wasn't as bad as all that. It just seems trendy these days to bash anything Gamecube. From Double Dash to Wind Waker. It was a tremendously under-appreciated system, and it kind of irks me when people disrespect it.

A 38 out of 40 sounds good... but then again Famitsu gave nintendogs a perfect score.

Famitsu, whichever way you look at it, is paid under the table for their reviews. They're yet another example of the puppet gaming press, like IGN and this blog. What they say must be taken with more than just a grain of salt.

@ TD:
Couldn't agree with you more. Perhaps because it was the first Nintendo system to not be in first place or in the top tier, it's treated like the weird uncle of the Nintendo console family. This is absurd, when it's given us some of the best games in Nintendo history: Smash Bros Melee, Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 4, Pikmin, and I could go on for a long while.

How is IGN a member of the puppet press? They regularly call Nintendo and other companies out for making mistakes as evidenced in a scathing editorial written in regards to Nintendo's marketing of Metroid 3, and another written about the lack of voice chat on the Wii. Read the blog of the editor there sometime. He complains about various things Nintendo does almost daily.
Not only that, but the website is well known for given high profile Nintendo games low scores when they aren't up to snuff. Proof of this can be seen in their review of the recent Mario Party and also in the classic 7.9 review given to Mario Kart: Double Dash.
In other words don't just randomly say things. Back up your accusations with facts. Thank you.
