Sometimes, it's interesting to compare what's popular in different regions. Of course, release dates come into play, as various parts of the world get games at different times, but there's a surprising amount of crossover when we look at what's big among Wii owners around the world. Not everything is surprising: Guitar Hero III is shredding most of the competition in the US, Metroid Prime 3 is clinging to a top spot in the UK, and Super Mario Galaxy is muscling out other titles in Japan. But with the sales the various minigame collections are boasting, is it any wonder we've seen so many? Even the lackluster Carnival Games is raking in the money in multiple regions. Hit the jump for the top five sellers to see for yourself.

Is that ghost squad with the zapper bundle that came out on Oct 23rd? Good to see the software doing so well in Japan. Nothing overly casual about that country. But this expanded audience wants games and yes now there are more of them then there are of you. I'm not either one so I am very comfy with the way things are turning out. I'm amazed Carnival Games has the legs it does but that should send a message. Europe too you can't expect BBA to not be top of the charts after the huge push NoE is doing over there with adverts and a contest and all. I mean who doesn't want to be Britain's Brainiest Family? It's just good to see the traditional sellers on this list and we all know they have staying power so let's just watch and see. I think after Mario Galaxy saturates into common awareness over the course of six months from launch far more of these expanded audience gamers will be playing traditional games, having comfortably made the switch thanks to Galaxies influence.

1. I agree with Troy, Mario is a "gateway" hardcore game, casuals can play it (Mario 64 was my first game ever), but its also a game that can be mastered (all 120 stars/shines and the like)
2. Damn, North American Wii owners buy some shite, but granted, its been 2 months since our last real hardcore title
3. Good to see Zack and Wiki up there in Japan, hopefully it breaks a million worldwide
