Dojo update: Hang out at Ridley's place
Another day on the dojo and another stage is unveiled. The seventeenth in all. This time it's Norfair, the place called "home" by chief Space Pirate Ridley (already confirmed as a playable character, you may recall, but with the Ice Climbers returning, who knows if this is still the case) from the Metroid games.
Once again, there's almost a game within a game here, with fights periodically interrupted by gushing tidal waves of lava that can come from any direction. These wash over the entire level, with only a single safe spot (complete with hatches that close at the sign of danger) remaining untouched. Problem is, there's not exactly a lot of room on your anti-lava platform, so you'll have to scrap it out for a space. A bit like musical chairs then, only with the added risk of getting horrifically burned alive in molten hot goo. We like!

There's something truly hilarious about seeing Yoshi in Norfair in that screen.

Since those character "confirmations" came before we knew about assist trophies or level-specific characters, I wouldn't be surprised if Ridley DOES show up, but only as an element in Norfair.

It's the little details that are going to put this game over the top: The use of the metroid series doors on the safe area is genius.

I agree. The use of the Metroid door is awesome.
Prepare for nit picky whining over tiny detail:
I just wish it didn't look so goofy. Why not use the same look from the Prime games? The doors showed up in the Metroid level of adventure mode of Melee, and they looked just like this. But that was before there was a 3D Metroid. Super Metroid (best game ever!) was still the most recent Metroid game. But now they got better door references. Use them!

Has anyone else caught the error in this? On the Dojo site they claim that Ridley is in Norfair... You don't fight Ridley in Norfair. You fight him in "Ridley's Lair" in Metroid 1. Don't mean to be Debbie Downer, but I couldn't resist.

Ridley is not confirmed. That rumour is a lie and don't try to pass it off as truth.
Although it would be awesome.

Another great week of updates at the Dojo. I am still very curious how they are fitting all of this on one disc. I mean really this game is huge and with new things being added every week I just don't see them fitting to many more levels and characters to the mix.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure Alexisonfire is right. It wasn't long after that was announced that it got busted. Besides, Ice Climbers were confirmed. I think that means the entire thing can be considered rumor.
More substantial evidence pointing towards Ridley would be the fact that they did everything BUT announce a boss fight against him here. (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music03.html). It would be odd if he didn't show up as a boss. Him appearing as a playable character is still up in the air, though.
