Note: I made the same mistake while recording the video tonight, commenting that Super Air Zonk was the first TG16 CD game in North America. Sorry for the blatant error on my part.
With the Wii turning 1 today, we'd hope for some kickass titles on the Virtual Console to celebrate its launch. Sadly, that isn't the case, as the releases today aren't all that great. Still, we soldier on and play the crappy games so you don't have to! Hit up the video above, then check out the rest of the coverage past the break.

Sonic 3D Blast (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
Sonic 3D Blast is not that great of a game. It has awkward controls and loses the sense of speed the other 16-bit games predominantly feature. More of a "fetch creatures" game than a "collect tons of rings and run really fast" affair, Sonic 3D Blast is one of the worst spin-offs the franchise has ever seen.

Wrecking Crew (NES, 1 - 2 players, 500 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
Wrecking Crew is a decent enough game, although it's incredibly basic. As far as plunking down 5 bucks goes, though, we can think of other titles more deserving of your money. It hasn't held up that great over time and is a monotonous time. For all of you who've sunk tons of time into the game back in its day, you might find the experience worth your dollars and cents, but we can't recommend it to gamers who've never experienced the game.

Super Air Zonk (TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!
For shoot-em-up fans, the Turbografx16 is like the Holy Grail wrapped in diamonds and chocolate sauce. The console provides many a title in that genre, often good. Super Air Zonk is a mixed bag, at times employing the best the genre has to offer and at others presenting tired mechanics that exist within. Throughout, however, the game is more good than bad, and we'd suggest you give it a try.
That concludes our look at this week's Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo's Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii.

Sonic 3D Blast is not that bad of a game, not like other sonics but that is its appeal. Maybe it should not have had Sonic as the main character. It was exciting at the time for its isometric 3D. I actually like the game, one of my sons does too, but we have it on one of the GC collection discs.
The review for Super Air Zonk sounds like a book report by someone who only read the cliffs notes, "at times employing the best the genre has to offer and at others presenting tired mechanics that exist within." Could someone flesh that out please. I never actually got to play this game and am curious.

Well, Michael, what I meant was that sometimes the action is intense, as most of the best shoot-em-ups often present, and at other times the game is incredibly boring, as you're doing nothing more than going with the flow of the camera and left to wait until some more enemies arrive so that you can get back to the fun.
Hopefully, that helps you some.
