Of course, there is always some bugs that need to be fixed when starting something like this. And, we have our fair share of them. But, it's nothing you can't handle. In fact, when you look at it a certain way, you're kind of like the Indiana Jones of the internet blog-commenting community, finding secrets buried deep in the net where other men fear to tread. We salute you, fine reader. We salute you indeed.
Most of you probably noticed your comments look like Mr Khan's above. Here's another example of one of mine:

Once there, you'll see this:

Once there, you can log in and change your picture (the default is that dude with a big question mark on his face or, as the kids say, "grill"). You can even change the URL you link to (for those of you with your own personal slice of the web). But, if you've never commented on Joystiq, then you won't be able to get your password (for some reason, you'll get a confirmation e-mail from us, but it won't have your password in there).
So, for all of our new folks who want to comment, you need to:
So, for all of our new folks who want to comment, you need to:
- Go to Joystiq and leave a comment somewhere
- Receive your confirmation e-mail with password
- Follow the steps above to access your profile page, log in and set up your account

I was wondering when you guys would switch over to the comment system Joystiq has.
Gratz?

Thanks!
Also of note, readers, is the ability to moderate comments. By clicking on the red or green arrow, you can vote down or up a comment respectively. If someone is flaming or just being dumb, vote their comment down and it won't bother you any longer.
If they're spamming, well you'll want to send us a tip so we can whip out the ban hammer.

So, hypothetically speaking, say someone was trying to update their profile picture. This person logs in as themselves, and then browses to the picture they want, and upon clicking Submit...nothing. Any ideas for someone that, hypothetically, might be having that problem?

You didn't get any kind of error message? What were the size dimensions on the image?
11-21-2007 @ 11:20PM
Chyld989 said...
The size of the one I tried today was 64x64. I'll try shrinking it to 32x32 and give it another go...
No good. I click Upload and absolutely nothing happens. No error, nothing. It continues to say "Done" in the Status bar from the page already being loaded...and that's it. Sad =(

I think it's about damn time Weblogs Inc. switch some of their other blogs over to the new system. I like posting high rated comments. :)

Not a bug, just a design preference.
If you look at sites that use Gravatar as their avatar system of choice, most of the time the avatar is set to 32x32 pixels. It's smaller but looks tighter, whereas too large and it might look a bit clunky.
The design of the comments went through several iterations (the chosen one was used for Massively) and you know, I think this just works.

I think what Ants is trying to say is that it's tiny compared to the default set by Joystiq's default avatar size. Compared to their 64x64 size these ones are micro.

Voting comments is pretty important, as it can help you filter some of the crap out.
What bothers me (but only slightly) is that if it's switching to a threaded-style comment system, why can't we collapse the threads? Am I blind or is it just absent?

Just post a comment using your name and email, and you should get an email to confirm your comment and it should have a password you can use to login. Then you can change it from there.

Going to the persistent user profile was the best thing Weblogs has done. It helps you get an idea of people's favorite sites, post history (fanboy or fair?), and reputation. For instance, I just found out that jopojelly, Joshua, and I all joined on the same day nearly two years ago... and that I must be the biggest loser due to my absorbent post count that keeps inching its way to 3000.
BTW, I hope I didn't hurt anyone's holiday feelings with the above - I remember having to click my way around when I first set up my profile.
Hmm, I think I'll finally get some rest now after being up nearly 24 hours on Black Friday, eight of which must have been wasted in a line here or there.
