Some new details have emerged regarding the Wii version of the upcoming Ghostbusters game (aside from what was already reported), courtesy of Game Informer magazine. And, it would seem the game is going to be more of a party-type game, with a heavy focus on multiplayer. The graphics will focus more on a cartoonish presentation (we're guessing cel-shading) and the title's main storyline will follow the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
The single player campaign will allow up to 4 players to compete co-operatively or competitively. Ghosts will act much like they do in the movies, flying through walls and objects, scaring the Ghostbusters (which will drain their health). The Ghostbusters will also have all of their tools at their disposal, including one special power for each Ghostbuster. There will also be a ghosts vs. Ghostbusters mode.
The game is currently slated for a Halloween 2008 release.
Ghostbusters definitely afraid of ghosts, bad for their health

If they give us a crippled party version of this game I am going to puke. WE DON'T WANT THAT! WE WANT A REAL GAME! DON'T PUNISH US!

*sigh* It's obvious that this is going to be a crap game. They just don't want to put the time and effort into it if they can't splurge on graphics.
You know, if I was a developer, I would do my best to keep Nintendo in the hardware race, because if they only made games and not consoles, they would probably put every other developer out of business.

Good point sonic1015, if all Ninty did was make games they would be MAKING GAMES like hell. Should we start an online petition here to send to the devs (the same ones behind mushroom men) to let them know we would rather have the real game with more jaggie graphics than have a stupid 'PARTY GAME' where you 'HAVE A FUN MINI-GAME WITH GHOSTS' good god! I mean putting a party mode IN with the game would be awesome, making it THE game is VOMIT! I LOVE THE GHOSTBUSTERS! I LOVE NINTENDO! I WANT TO PLAY THE REAL GAME! I WOULD RATHER THE GAME NEVER COME OUT THAN COME OUT ALL COOL FOR PS3 AND BE SOME KIND OF 'GAME PARTY' FOR WII!

Wow, talk about over-reacting. Go take a look at the screenshots in GI for the Wii version. No, they do not look as good as the XBox360/PS3 version, but its still pretty good. I want it for the fun control scheme they are working on and the multiplayer modes. Also, THEY WILL BE THE SAME DAMN GAME!!!!!! Wii Fanboy said it in the article (which it seems you selectively read). The storyline will be identical between the versions, so stop worrying that its going to be some kinda of mini-game party game. Get over it and just wait for the game to come out. I personally will probably get both versions so I can play it with better graphics and better controls.
Wii Fanboy, do not post articles on games or news unless you guys actually do your research first hand. You would know what the game looks like if you actually read the article. They have 4 screenshots of the Wii version in GI. There was no way you could miss it as the Wii/PS2 version was given a half-page column within the main Ghostbusters article. PLEASE start being a little more professional with your news. Its annoying that I can find mistakes in your articles everytime I read them. Do not turn into the guys at PSP Fanboy who give out false information on a daily basis.

All it says is that the STORYLINE follows the other versions.

Wait: what do you mean? 'The single player campaign will allow up to 4 players to compete co-operatively or competitively. '
I think you just meant 'multiplayer' instead of single player

They mean Multiplayer co-op. Think Halo co-op but with 4 people. Sadly, its supposed to be split-screen also.
Also, so what if its just the storyline? They said they do not want any major differences between the versions (in the GI article). I assume this will mean gameplay will be similar also excluding the controls.

Troy & Gumby,
GI article (sitting in front of me) says "The entire single-player campaign can be tackled by up to four players via splitscreen co-op OR a Halo 3 style competitive mode." (emphasis mine). It's a choice, not a limitation.

This is funny... in reading the entire Wii part of the GI article (all 170-or-so words of it), it honestly looks (to me anyway) like Wii and PS2 owners will be getting MORE game with simpler (but good looking) graphics. So, quit whining, do more research, get your facts straight, and celebrate the awesomeness that will be Ghostbusters on the Wii!!

Sorry, I incorrectly assumed that the blurb on Wiifanboy was providing me with a summarized version of the gist of the article it was sourcing. However, what they have sourced is a forum. I do not subscribe to game informer nor am I going to buy it just to see if the little blurb on nintendo wii summarized it accurately, no less within minutes of first finding out about it. I mean I might check it out when I go to the store after work, but come on. If there IS a game informer online site with the article, then clearly THAT should have been sourced by this site rather than a forum. And from the wording of this article:
"Some new details have emerged regarding the Wii version of the upcoming Ghostbusters game... And, it would seem the game is going to be more of a party-type game..."
OK? Sorry that I didn't already have the magazine this was referring to to know that that this is a strangely misleading summary of it. Yes, it sounds awesome now. I feel very foolish. But I don't think I can be blamed for trusting what I was reading. I think I can be down with a more 'Pixar' look as was hinted at before for the Wii version, and from what I hear on that message board that was sourced the art in the Wii version is stylistically perhaps more interesting. Wish I could actually SEE this, but again I am not a subscriber.

Oh... what the heck. Here's the full text:
=====
Wii and Playstation 2 owners will also be able to get in on the fun next Halloween with a cartoon-styled version of Ghostbusters. "The storyline from the next-gen version will be carried out in its entirety in our game, but our primary focus is on multiplayer," says Red Fly's Jeff Mills. "So we'll reproduce everything that you do in the game, but then we'll repurposed (sic) the maps for various multiplayer things and introduce new maps for multiplayer scenarios as well."
The entire single-player campaign can be tackled by up to four players via splitscreen co-op or a Halo 3 style competitive mode. But the largest difference from the XBox 360 and PS3 versions is found in the adversarial modes where players battle it out in a ghosts versus Ghostbusters free for all. Ghosts will be able to phase through certain points in the walls, floors, and ceiling. And many, like Slimer, have the ability to fly. Ghosts can also sneak up behind players and scare them, temporarily reducing their max health. Busters are equipped with a standard array of proton packs and traps and each one has a different special ability. Ray, for example, will be able to spot where ghosts are going to come through the wall.
=====
There.

Troy,
It's not your fault... it's "David Hinkle"'s fault. :) Where he gets "party-type" from the above text is beyond me. Or, if he just reported on someone else's reporting on what the magazine reported... well... you get the idea.
Looking at the one good pic in the magazine (that I got roped into when I bought my Wii at GameStop last year and will not be renewing), "'Pixar' look" is a very good description. I searched on-line for a bit but couldn't find any Wii pics. Maybe I'll scan it in tonight when I get home...

Thanks for posting the article z3r0w1n9. I would have done it myself but I am at work and my GI is at my apartment. Hopefully that will clear up the game for people. Hopefully, Wii Fanboy will take the time to FIX their posting and get the facts straight.

Well, "party-game" has a bad connotation, and perhaps David was using it in the old term
Games with local multiplayer are "party-games" its that simple, but much like the current trend of "casual v. hardcore" the term has become fodder in internet fanboy wars
Sometimes i wonder what's wrong with humanity...
@ troy, it's perfectly understandable. Wii fanboy has seen a lot of these "fan freak-outs" when we see another good game go to PS360, and wii get the shaft again

Man, thanks for posting that full text! See, now that sounds awesome. Not only did they make it clear we are getting all the game the PS360 owners are getting, but that these badass extra modes are ON TOP OF IT! The idea of having these modes as badass EXTRAS, as one of my earlier freaky-outie posts indicated, always seemed awesome to me. It makes it that much better that the other guys don't even get anything like that! Ha ha. But I feel so relieved.
My freaking out came from not wanting this game to be ruined (it sounds so badass) for me just because I got a Wii and out of the fear that all developers would do this with every game from now on, which would suck. I am glad to hear these very good reports, and I really appreciate the effort typing that, and I can't harbor too much of a grudge against 'Da Hinkster' as he is pretendly affectionately known. LOL

I prefer multiplayer-based games to single player ones. I don't even think I'll buy Mario Galaxy just because it's pretty much just single player (admit it, it's been a hoax all along) and because I don't have any money. I'm happy about this anouncement.

Well the actual site makes the game sound good.
This Wiifanboy article makes little to no sense... "it would seem the game is going to be more of a party-type game, with a heavy focus on multiplayer."
I did not get that impression when it later reported "The single player campaign will allow up to 4 players to compete co-operatively or competitively." These 2 statements seem to contradict each other?
Having a single player mode allow multiplayer does not mean "party type game."
