GamesRadar got their hands on the full version of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, and, rather than just being jerks about it as we joked in the title, they have actually provided detailed impressions of the game, calling it "a game of contradictions." Some of their concerns aren't relevant to gameplay, but are still weird: NiGHTS now speaks, in a bizarre, androgynous voice with an unplaceable accent. Did NiGHTS need more cutscenes? No, but then, neither did Sonic the Hedgehog.
Where it counts, however, NiGHTS seems to be interesting. The flight "really works" and most of the levels take place in the sky (the few on-foot levels don't fare as well). Strangely, the emphasis seems to be on speed in this game and not on tricks. We don't know if this will anger NiGHTS fans or if it will be welcomed as fresh; hopefully, the linking and looping found in the first game will play a larger part than described, adding depth to what seems like a time attack. At least, in its own right, the game seems sound.
Also of interest to NiGHTS fans: this interview with Takashi Iizuka, which mentions that the development team prefers the GameCube controls for their similarity to the Saturn analog pad, and offers faint hope for a Burning Rangers sequel.
GamesRadar finishes NiGHTS, rubs it in our faces

well to be fair, in the first NiGHTS tricks counted for NOTHING unless you had the yellow ribbon multiplier, which was quite rare to begin with.
some tricks even altered your trajectory in horrible ways, so doing them was risking your score.

Well, it sounds like it doesn't suck over all and it's damn good where it counts.
Could Sega finally have gotten one right?!?

Wii Fanboy:
"GamesRadar got their hands on the full version of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams..."
GamesRadar.com:
"We're not going to go into any more detail than that here - after all, the game's not even finished yet."
Am I missing something here??

Hmm, you're right. It's really awkward -- the GAME isn't finished, but I guess they are talking about finishing the whole game in its current form?
I'm guessing that a few weeks before release, though, what is 'unfinished' includes bug fixes and such. They aren't still designing levels.

Ahhh, gotcha. Their article is set up a little weird. The first page seems as if it is a review of the retail copy. Click thru a couple of pages though....

Good to see initial reviews coming back positive
That is a VERY good sign, although initial looks at Secret Rings were positive too, and that game got scores from about 25% to 85%, depending on who you referenced
Them not screwing up the flight mechanics, however, is the best thing overall, means the core game will still be there in all its new glory

Well, Saturn Nights was based on linking and collecting, and to make many links you have to be fast too, so i guess/hope they just made it speedier because it's more fun that way.
I loved the original nights but hated the kids and from what i've seen this one is going to be even worse about it so :/
I think i'll give it a rent first and see how it feels.

Am I the only one looking forward to the ALIFE mode? The Chao Garden was what sold the Sonic Adventure games, pretty much the only reason I played them... I wanna know how this new ALIFE mode is!!!

Dude, I agree although I'm a little wary to do so. The Chao garden zoned in on my 5th/6th Digimon obsession in the worst way.
And hmm, more positive than I thought it was going to be. Maybe NiGHTS will fill the post Christmas lull in games a little at least.
