We've managed to abstain from posting about video game-related cakes for a record seven weeks now -- mostly to avoid the hackneyed "The cake is a lie" comments that inevitably follow -- but we're breaking that streak today with this fondant-covered beauty. Chefs John Thai, Zack Ginies, and Lori Diaz baked this Boo Mario together, sprinkling the plate with 1UPs before sending him out to save his imprisoned brother. Isn't he adorable? Shake your Wii remote and float past the post break to see more photos of this haunting dessert. Make sure to avoid the swinging spotlights!

This 1UP looks so delicious!

And this tongue looks so tonguey!

Wow! That's a sweet cake! But isn't anyone else mad that Boo Mario is playable for about 2 minutes of the game?

Yes, Boo Mario wasn't playable nearly enough in SMG. I really enjoyed playing as him. (Spoiler maybe---) There really should have been an "escort" level of guiding Luigi from point A to point B by scaring him in the direction you wanted him to go (my idea, trademarked thank you).
Scaring Luigi at the end of that one level was really fun.
And this cake is amazing.

Please note that the cake wouldn't have been possible without Chef Lory Diaz's delicious chocolate fudge cake, almond filling, and creamy coconut cheesecake icing. Also note that none of us are actually chefs.

THIS TOTALLY GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING I WAS TRYING TO DO! LOL I had had that promo pic from SMG of Mario clutching the Koopa Shell while Bullet Bills flew in the background as my desktop for like a month and a half, and I've been thinking I need something that isn't Mario or video game related on there since that's the only time video games aren't on my TV, and you put this up. What choice to not make this my desktop do I have?

Very cute! Fondant cakes always -look- much better when you're trying to make a cake that looks like stuff or looks really smooth and clean (like wedding cakes) but it's barely edible.
