'Tis the season for giving and so forth, so here's a cockle-warming story regarding one child's altruism.Upon discovering his father was helping to assemble a toy collection for foster children, nine-year-old Brandyn Waterford decided to make his own contribution. However, rather than donating the usual motley collection of tattered cuddly toys, dog-eared comics, and crappy, half-baked games, Brandyn honorably surrendered his Wii, a birthday gift from his parents, to Agape Villages Foster Family Services.
"I decided to give away something I really like so another kid could have a really good Christmas," said the young benefactor. Awww, bless. Group hug, everyone!

Must just be waiting around for Smash Bros. or something. On a serious note, that takes guts. I'd rather part with the $250 it's worth than the Wii itself. Bravo, kid. Bravo.

How is the recipient of the Wii going to be able to afford any games if he's a part of a charity program...? It would be tortuous to get a game console only to be unable to do anything with it, or only able to play Wii Sports and whatever else this nine year old kid had.

Torturous to only be able to play Wii Sports? Then explain how a vast number of Wii users are doing just that.

People who get these gifts aren't homeless; they're just poor. Most people (poor or not) have televisions.

However nice guys finish last..
as in now you have no Wii to play
I wonder if he even like his wii, probably not, I can't see him giving it otherwise. Perhaps it was a clever scheme to get his olds to buy him a PS3?

Too bad most Charities want an unwrapped, unopened toy. Hand me downs are for the Thrift Shop.

What an incredible sacrifice. Even if I had another current generation gaming system that I didn't like as much as I like my Wii, it'd be terribly difficult to give that up. I love the 4 systems (one handheld) I do have. I can't even imagine giving up my DS.
I suppose that exposes the level of greed and materialism I suffer from. If you can give away something so precious to you, it says something wonderful about this kid's heart. That sacrifice will be a joy he recalls every day for the rest of his life.
I suppose I need to look at a few things that are precious to me and consider giving one (or more) of them up. There's no better season to be considering it.

If the receiving charity has half a brain, they'll sell it on Ebay and use the resulting $400-500 to buy a couple dozen smaller toys. At least, that'd be my approach...
