We were waiting for Japanese sales numbers to be released to see how Wii Fit debuted, and they have finally come. Famitsu is reporting that Wii Fit ended the week at the #2 spot (behind Professor Layton 2 for the DS) in software sales, with 254,000 copies sold. Keep in mind also that since Wii Fit was released later in the week, these numbers only account for two days of the game being available (most games on the Japanese charts account for four days of sales). It's also interesting to note that in two days, Wii Fit has already sold more than Super Mario Galaxy sold in its first week.
Furthermore, Wii hardware sales jumped up this week, as the console pushed 71,000 units. That's approximately a 30% increase from last week's sales, and a 97% increase from two weeks ago when the Wii sold 36,000 units. Although software clearly played a big part in this growth, it seems likely that Nintendo also made sure to ship more Wiis to Japan with the release of Wii Fit.

AWESOME! And to somebody who, in the last post of Wii Fit, commented that it wasn't interesting to him like 'Brain Age,' because 'brain age lets you compete against yourself by measuring your scores' or some such similar thing, what exactly do you think the biometrical graphing and charting ability of Wii Fit allows you to do? On top of the built in health applications, I look forward to being able to put in things I do outside the game like my bike rides, which the game will then calculate in with your game activities when assessing your health. I really like that I can get credit for things I do in real life and that the influence of this 'Wii Fit' package extends beyond the game. I don't understand why people are NOT excited. I mean I don't already know yoga and having this to help me count my pushups, track them over time, keep my posture well on situps, get an areobic workout in each day while getting a better feel for my balance with some fun and relaxing balance games and more seems pretty damn exciting to me. Oh, and not to mention I don't know pilates either. I can't understand why ANYONE would think that Wii Fit is somehow bad, stupid, useless, uninteresting, unproven, or any other of that stuff, at least not any more than you might have said that about the 'Brain Age/Training' games before they came out. God, am I excited! I think they've been holding off on the NA release date until they decide if they can just use that balance board or if they want to make a bigger one. I just want it already! The pics of Miyahon holding it at E3 made it look huge!

Not just you. They look a lot more shiny...although I wouldn't have realized it had you not commented on it.
Also, about it beating out Mario Galaxy: Damn. What's up with the Japanese recently? I know they enjoy the casual games market more then is healthy (get it? Wii Fit's healthy...), but it's Mario. MARIO. They love Nintendo, therefore they gotta love Mario, as he's the only reason that they, and the videogame market entirely, is around.

How wonderfully random.
I'm in awe.
The boy...I think he liked it.
He didn't exactly fight the dog off now did he.
What this has to do with No More Heroes.
??????
That was random.

Hate to nitpick, but just as I pointed out in the linked post re: Super Mario Galaxy, the sales numbers for SMG were for its first FOUR DAYS, not first week. (That is, unless the sales week in the Japanese gaming world is only four days long.)
Still, Wii Fit is still the clear winner here, edging SMG out by 3k units (254k versus 251k) in only half the time (two days versus four).

2) that's nsfw, btw
3) the dog wasn't *attacking* the boy, it looked more like humping
4) the boy sounded like he was enjoying it!
5) why didn't the camera person do anything to stop that?

It is SOOOO super silly to compare the sales numbers. OK, its not silly, and it seems natural, but let's not get depressed. Mario will be selling steady for a long long time. I am sad how its huge success in America is overshadowed by its Japanese reception, which is still quite good and will be selling for so long into the future that no one will remember these first months anyway.

Is anyone really surprised? I still think it's sad that it outsold mario though. While wiifit does look fun, I think it'll probably be another one of those games that I abuse for a few months, but then ends up getting stashed in a corner and only taken out when friends come over and want to play it, like wii sports.
