Dad finds son smoking pot, attacks his weak point for massive damage
When eBay seller k_lid found his fifteen-year-old son Isaac smoking marijuana on the patio with two of his "delinquent friends," he did what any respectable parent would do: he calmly removed his son's copy of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock from beneath the Christmas tree, and put it up for sale on eBay, complete with a lengthy description about why it was being auctioned.
With the listing underway, all that was left to do was show the auction page to Isaac, who apparently "was not amused" by the sight of his number one Christmas present going on sale. Funny, that.
But kudos to k_lid, we say. That's a pretty calculating, imaginative punishment, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of tough love. Didn't do us any harm. Apart from the panic attacks. And the nightmares. And the endless twitching.
[Thanks, Chris!]

Don't worry - the kid probably forgot about it already.
Short-term memory jokes are... uh, shoot, I forgot the punchline!

Hypothetical individuals report to me that they are just grateful they are at the age where they are in their own place and nobody sells their wii or games on ebay for similar transgressions. Then again, these hypothetical people report: they have to pay for their wii and games themselves in the first place.

I guess it's about that time of year where stories like this start making their rounds. Some "parent" finds their "kid" doing something wrong, or their "kid" is very poorly behaved, so they take an expensive present that everyone wants and put it up for sale on eBay. It generates a buzz and people looking to partake in the "punishment" line up to bid.
I'm not calling fake; it's perfectly possible that this is legit. But you know what? We've seen this song and dance before.

I remember when I was a kid my parents told me I couldn't play B-Ball if they ever caught me smoking pot...
Anyway, one wonders if this is about the Pot itself as much as the incredible stupidity/arrogance it takes to either initiate a little Pot party on your parent's porch (presumably while they are home or hell, in town which would have scared me as much when I was his age) or to let your loser friends pressure you into it. Whatever your stance on Marijuana smoking, its not for teens, and the kids who are offering it to other kids are probably not safe peers for a wide variety of reasons beyond the drug itself.

My point was not that if you smoked pot as a teenager you're a bad person, but that like alcohol it is something best reserved until you're fully developed physically and mentally. Also, as I said before the real issue here I would presume is the fact that he was in a pretty dumb position to get caught, I'm sure those people you respect that you refer to wouldn't be dumb enough to have done it on their dad's porch at 13 either ;)

Is it really a creative punishment when dozens of these stories have already gone around?
I doubt it's even true.

Not mentioning arguments about whether or not smoking pot is actually dangerous, this just strikes me as bad parenting.
You catch your kid doing something bad and you want to punish them? Fine, but make the punishment fit the crime. Make it so that the kid learns why what he did was wrong, and is given something else to do instead. Otherwise what's the point?
What will taking away GHIII do? Probably make the kid angry at the dad, make Christmas less fun, and remove a potential activity from the kids repertoire. Now what's he going to do? Go to a friends house and play Guitar Hero III while stoned? He can't play it not stoned at his own house, and he doesn't like his dad, so why wouldn't he?

I completely agree with Junorhane. I see two likely outcomes of this sort of punishment:
1) the son will be more careful in the future
2) the son will be more inclined to smoke marijuana
The unfortunate reality is that most parents would probably agree with this father's decision.
+ How relevant, slayer. Idiot.

This is retarded.
I understand parents dont want their kids to smoke pot, thats fine, but this sort of punishment, i can almost promise you, will only make him rebel further and cause more trouble.
Also, since hes not been publicly ridiculed, its turned from punishment to public humiliation.
Son, your dad is an idiot.

and Slayer, nice comment history.
The number of kids he has has nothing to do with his capability of being a parent, and for all you know, he DOES have kids, which would just make you look an (an even bigger) idiot.
And finally, how many kids do YOU have?
Im willing to bet itll be more than one, cause youre that kind of guy.

As a parent,I'd have to say that some of the pansy-ass comments I read on eBay about this guy is a strong indicator of what in hell is "wrong with kids today" because it seems that SOME parents think it is a RIME to say "No" and "you have disappointed me" or anything else "negative."
Then again, as i have seen it with my own eyes, kids holding their parents "hostage" and such, i expect little from them. God help them in the job market :)
As for the auction...I think it is HILARIOUS. Regardless of anyone's personal opinion of marijuana consumption, the kid knew his dad did not approve of it. Silly child. But that is how they learn :)

I wonder if the father ever considered TALKING to his child and taking an active interest in his life. I don't agree with teenage marijuana use either (but agree with the comment about knowing very respectable people who have done so at that age), but that is bad parenting. You're basically shutting off all lines of communication and pushing the kid farther away.
OK, I have to go put my soap box away.

To harsh of a punishment for sparkin up a little cheeb. Get real America the Reefer Madness days of making pot seem evil are over, no reason to ruin a whole christmas over it. Hey kid if you happen to stumble upon this site don't use pipes just twist one up and go on a walk, much easier to hide the evidence.

Yeah, I bet he was taking one for the team.
High bid + Not gonna pay = Bad feedback + Dad stuck with GHIII
Even though I agree with the creative punishment, someone decided to punish the dad for writing about it on Ebay :-)

How low has society and parenting fallen when people think that taking away a plastic guitar toy is a "harsh punishment?"
Alot of people are going to one day find out that they'll have to make a choice between being a parent and being a buddy.

Oh, stfu, you pansy ten-something babies who have never raised a kid. Weed? I'd zip-tie him and his "friends" and perp walk them back to their homes with the evidence, then turn them all in to the police AND take away his freaking birthday.
