Suda and Wada behind bloodless No More Heroes
A recent announcement that Europe would be getting a bloodless version of No More Heroes didn't go down well with many of our bloodthirsty commenters. At the time, PAL publisher Rising Star Games refused to reveal what was behind the decision, but more light was shed on the omission earlier today, in a joint statement from director Suda51 and producer Yasuhiro Wada (pictured above unsuccessfully trying to give away free toilet roll and autographs on the streets of Akihabara).
Turns out that it was Suda and Wada themselves who decided to drop the outrageous levels of gore from the European version, citing the "broadly growing Wii market" in the region.
Not that this affects many of you, as the U.S. version still contains plenty of the crimson stuff. Buckets of it, in fact.

I don't see this as a huge issue. I'm a U.S. citizen, so I'll be getting tons of blood in the game, but wouldn't really mind if all the bad guys just disappeared in a cloud of black dust. The blood might actually obscure the view of the action. Still going to be a wonderful game no matter the amount of blood in it.

I guess I understand the reasoning now. Nothing like irrationally flipping out at a corporation that didn't even impose the blood sanction.
Also, Bonsly.

I don't really care either way, to be honest. But I think it'd be better to have the option of blood or not in options or maybe somehow use the Wii's Parental controls in some way. I dunno.

Damn it, this sucks. Dumbing down games for the "non-gamer" who would never touch anything like this anyway.

It's not a bad thing per se, as blood != mature. The art style seems to support both the spurting and the coinage
Now, if it were something that didn't fit with the style, that would be bad

Yep. That makes sense.
"Wiis are selling there. The majority of gamers there like Sony for their big tough manly games and dislike nintendo for being "childish". Let's not give them blood to make them feel like they've been given a dumbed down version of the game."
It sounds pathetic, but I might not buy the game over this. I don't like my european releases getting fucked around to be honest.

well wasnt that convienient for rising star after getting quite a lot of criticism from the european gamers. this has totally put me off buying this game.
whats the reasoning here..? if its for the broad market.. why would they still put the gore in the us version? that doesnt make any sense..
i usually hate people for speculating but what i THINK happend here was that rising star got a lot of sh*t and suda & co issued a BS statement to save the sales in europe.

"broadly growing Wii market"??
quick, no one buy a wii in the US, or we'll get censored!
this makes no sense.

Maybe he meant growing Nintendo market. Although GCN didn't sell as well as its competitors, its largest market was US and Sony really owned Europe.

i just stinks to see two separate versions of the game for no real reason, and to be unable to choose which one i would like to play.
Thumbs down :(

You said it, what ever happened to letting the players turn the blood on or off in the options menu?
