Reggie sure had a lot to say today, didn't he? He may have crushed our hopes for online features coming to the Virtual Console, but in the process managed to dangle another carrot (a voice chat flavored carrot, that is) in front of our faces. To quote the man himself, "I would not be surprised to see that capability come to this system." He also stated that the Wii has the capability for voice chat, it was just a matter of making a peripheral. That's definitely better than some of the outright "no" statements that we're so used to hearing.

Oh yay, voice chat. I'm so looking forward to getting called "fag" and "nigger" by thirteen-year-olds.

Hopefully Nintendo will include multiple features that prevent users from freely discussing such interesting topics like cultural differences and nicknames associated with said cultures.
Anyways, Nintendo will use the policy that if someone hasn't gave you their separate voice chat friends number, then you will be unable to talk to them.

If Nintendo is really working on such system, then it will only work with Wii friends, OR, have a parental feature to allow to enable voice chat with anyone, only Wii friends, or disable it.

Spouting racial slurs is hardly a discussion of any kind.

If this comes to fruition I can only imagine how ass backwards it will be to actually use. Nintendo just loves to see us jump through hoops.

Yeah,
like "Chat Codes," approved, of course, by your loving and responsible parents and NOTARIZED.
I would just mess myself laughing.

I agree with the majority of comments here - voice chat is overblown and usually just random name-calling.
I'm all for restricting it to friend codes only. I don't care to hear other Brawlers calling me every name in the book by some 13-year-old.

cool! i hope that the peripheral is wireless. If not it should connect to the wii remote with a slot for the nunchuck.
as long as its not a usb/gcmemslot wired itll be good.

Just give me voice chat with friends...that's all I need chat-wise. PLEASE NINTENDO!
I just use a phone and put it on speaker during matches...but it would be much more convenient with a peripheral.

Although i recall him giving the same coy response about online for Metroid Prime 3
It would be nice with friends, but i definitely would avoid it with randoms, unless it was team-play or co-op (none of which are on the Wii yet anyway)

let's hope that the microphone has two speakers for each ear unlike the DS one: that one made me think: dude! we have stereo sound for god sakes!
Oh well...

Dear Nintendo,
You clearly already have Bluetooth hardware in there anyway. Please let us use the BT headset/handset/handsfree profiles and leave it at that. I do not need to buy yet another exclusive accessory.
Thanks,
James

I've figured all along it was just a matter of time before voice chat was added. Hopefully before Monster Hunter as that's the main game that I know will benefit from it.
@ Just_a_guy: The 360 wireless headset is one ear too. I don't get it either.

Nintendo and possibilities. Does anyone remember all the ports built into the backs and bottoms of Ninty systems for years, only to have bored fanboys open their covers and dream of all the things that could've gone there?
Nintendo's "Possiblities":
Fanboys: "Could you PLEASE give us voice chat?"
Nintendo: "Yeah, we could." (Hangs up.)

lol @ Eddie, so true ;)
Never mind "I wouldn't be surpised to see voice comms", get it sorted for crying out loud!
Give the options in the parental controls for voice to be disabled to keep the moaners happy, and let us players that have plenty of distant friends to play have a bit of fun and banter with our online games.
For heavens sake don't release MarioKart Wii until voice support is in place, will be a right blast online but not nearly as fun without the good old evil taunts between mates(yes, again I'm talking actual friends here, not random screaming teenagers).
Get on it Nintendo, not sometime in the future....NOW!
